Been watching THE LAST STARFIGHTER, which I found on the VHS shelf at the local Charity shop. Never seen it before and I'm enjoying what I've seen so far. Clearly influenced by Star Wars and Tron. Anyway, toys in films - just what is that red pistol on the desk at the start of the movie? Around the 7 to 12 seconds slots in this You Tube clip.
Newsflash: I checked out that Pez Pistol Jay but there's no yellow on it's grip. I can see yellow in the film clip. Found this die-cast Captain Scarlet gun from the '60's - has a yellow grip. Would this have been in a US movie? Waddaya reckon?

I wouldn't have a clue anyway, but it is very difficult to make anything out from the YouTube clip. Any chance of a screen-grab from your video, Woodsy?
ReplyDeleteTo me, it looks vaguely like a PEZ ray gun (from the 80s), but it's too small to really tell.
ReplyDeleteYou might try asking Doc Atomic over at his blog: Attic of Astounding Artifacts.
one of the earliest uses of cgi animation in films with some stunningly original design work from Ron Cobb. Love the Gunstar! I went to see this on the big screen and cant find it on dvd now!
ReplyDeleteYeah I went to the cinema to see it too and it instantly became one of my favorites! I had the tape but that was stolen in a burglary 10 years ago :-) I do still have the FASA starship combat game, the soundtrack album (and what a soundtrack it is in my humble opinion)and some books. And Alex & Grig's pre-launch conversation is still wonderful after all these years "You mean they're all dead?"
ReplyDeleteOoo! I think you found your ray gun! Good eye!
