Cover Story

 A couple of space theme record covers caught my eye recently.

The Moog Invasion. Not sure which robot that is buts it's part of a long tradition in the Sixties and Seventies to use toys on the covers. 

This is different, a space vision relying solely on the artists skill. It's Roger Dean's amazing cover for Rameses Space Hymns. 

A rocket-powered church steeple and so beautifully done. 

I first came across this in Roger's big softback Visions. 

What a talent.

A JR21 FAB2! What If?

 I've always loved toy boats, especially when I was a youngster.

I would have loved a toy FAB2, 

Lady Penelope's superyacht. 

Dinky could have issued a die-cast like their  iconic FAB1, but JR21 would have been the obvious choice. Ideally it would come with a small stowed FAB1. Alas, they didn't go for it.

An alternative might be the fantastic Wren Vosper triple screw model yacht, although there's nowhere for a little FAB1 to be stored.

But that's being picky. The Vosper box art could pass for FAB2 as well! 

And in the box the yacht looks spiffing.

What a toy! I want one!

Would Lady Penelope have approved though?

Whilst browsing for a VHS I came across this old Anime I guess. Space Firebird. The name has a sort of Gerry Anderson ring to it b

Ed's Marx #4672 'The Flintstones' Playset 1961

Since we've been on the subject of The Flintstones of late, here's my playset which I photographed just last month. I had gotten one of these sets back in 1962 (the first photo) and it was one of my favorite toys because I thought it was soooo cool and it brought the cartoon to life. 

It would have been awesome if Marx had expanded the set with other buildings and figures, but it what it is.

The set in my collection was acquired many years ago and was not only complete but even had some extra pieces. All those extras were removed so that the playset could be photographed as it would have come from the store. 

The shipping label was also inside the box and I thought it very interesting, first of all because of the ultra cheap postage, but look closely at the name: Edwin H Baker - EHB. Those are my initials as well!!! What are the chances of that happening?
