Toy Wonder! The Marx Batmobile Pedal Car

I just love this 1966 Batmobile Pedal Car.

Released by Marx at the height of Batmania, I wonder how many budding junior Batmen actually got to ride the streets in one. It must have been expensive. 

Looking at the seat I guess the driver sat with their feet up and placed in the recesses at the side. But how did it move? There are no pedals. 

With lots of gizmos and gadgets like Adam West's original, it is it's own design and not a straight copy. 

I wonder why Marx didn't try to replicate the TV batmobile outright? Was it a licensing issue?

Anyways, here it is in all its glory as seen in a Pennsylvanian auction.

Big Boy Moon Wagon: Lean Back and Let 'er Roll!

 I e heard of the Radio Flyer but not this, the Moon Wagon by Big Boy.

I spotted it on auction. With rear wheelie wheels, it does look like fun!

I do t think I've ever seen one in the UK.

Is it an American space race icon?

Guided Missile Rocket.

I love the card art.

There's something Moonshippish about it too.

It's a new one on me. Probably went for a bit of money.

Prime Stripes

 I saw this neat Tonka truck and I immediately thought of the Gen1 Optimus Prime cab and trailer. 

Here's an Optimus trailer I made last year to go with my transformer cab.

The livery is similar.

Is it an American icon that striping? And the cab too?

Wharren Percy: Riddle Ages

 We visited Wharren Percy in January.

It's the site of a 'deserted' medieval village and it's mysteries were studied for decades by the world's archeologists.

It's owned by English Heritage now. It's a remote spot next to a tiny modern hamlet set in the gentle curves of the misty Yorkshire Wolds, a landscape out of time.

In the churchyard they found evidence of trepanning! 

It reminded me of somewhere Jon Pertwee might have landed in the TARDIS, a spooky, almost mystical place.

Essentially it's only the lay-out of the village visible now, foundations from the Middle Ages, and the church ruin.

The team of diggers slept in a farmhouse.

It would have made a good episode for Dr.Who, with the dig team in the Sixties.

On the woodland path leading to the site are ruins of a much later and towering Victorian water mill.

The murky leafy scene immediately made me think of Black Sabbath's eponymous debut LP cover!

There's even a track called Sleeping Village!

FOUND! Tales from Ed's Cave - My Quick-Fit-Kit Moguras Unearthed In Epic Search-&-Rescue Mission

Oh good Lord Woodsy, I thought this day would never come: my Quick-Fit-Kit Moguras can now join its companions, the Echo Car and the Vanguard spaceship. 

In what amounted to a massive search-&-rescue mission out in The Cave, the evasive Moguras was found burrowing itself down into layers of boxes and tote bins, hiding behind mountains of parcels and playsets. 

Braving jungle heat and Arctic cold snaps, traps were set, and the elusive beast was captured at last!

Honestly though, while the Echo Car and Vanguard kits were readily available (they were featured on MC some months back), that darn Moguras went missing. 

I knew I had one because of one lone photo taken a couple of years ago of the box and bag of parts. True to its pesky nature, the thing kept giving me problems during the 'build' (more like wrestling session). 

Almost none of the parts fit as they should have, but after rounds of filing, carving, shaving, cutting, burning incense, and chanting incantations to the Gods of Model Building (fortunately no sacrifices were required), the bloody thing was finished. 

At my age, and with increasingly unsteady hands, even simple builds are challenging, but it certainly doesn't help when the parts don't fit. 

Perhaps the plastic had swelled over the years or perhaps the kits simply weren't designed that well, in any case it wasn't a whole lot of fun, but the job is done and I can now show all three vehicles together!
