Convair Model 49 AAFSS Proposal

I just found this ten-minute video by Dark Skies on the Convair Model 49 proposal. A design submitted in the 1960s for the US Army Advanced Aerial Fire Support System programme. This called for a heavily armed attack helicopter for use in Vietnam. The Lockheed AH-56 Cheyenne was eventually built for this, but cancelled in the early 1970s at the prototype stage.

The Model 49 was not a helicopter, and was never built, but Convair did produce models of the proposed design. It basically had a barrel-shaped body, with a tilting cockpit section on top. Bizarre thing, rather like the better known French Coleoptere of the 1950s. Pure Gerry Anderson.

These Lanzador Espacial key rings are pretty darn neat. Available in Spain on the Todocollecion site, its an unusual design. Looks like they contain a smaller vehicle too. Have you seen anything like it?

A few oddments from a stroll around a local market town. Is there anything you like?

This Jewellers had a few classic die-casts mixed in too like this lovely gold James Bond Aston Martin.

There was another Aston on display in the next window and a nice Polizei Porsche.

This Cats Cradle caught my eye in a charity shop. One of those re-issues of classic games it reminded me how I used to be mesmerised in the school playground by kids - usually girls - playing this, a sort of hand loom with wool. I recall the 'cradle' being passed to another kid when it was half way through. Is that right?

This plastic toy cupboard was a mystery. Emblazoned with dinosaurs, it had a clock on top. Any ideas?

Similarly this grinning fella remains unidentified, Can you help?

This metal cannon on a wooden stand took me right back. These types of knick knacks were all over my parents' house. Did you have a cannon?

Finally, I was sorely tempted by this futuristic set of table and chairs, which I thought was very 2001. A real snip in a second-hand furniture store, we just don't have the room at Moonbase! Would you have got it?

Hachette Giant Tumbler Batmobile Kit

I just spotted this recent item on You Tube. A look at a new partwork model from Hachette, which has just been released on a trial basis in Britain.

It is a 1/8th scale kit of the Tumbler Batmobile, with lights and sounds. Mixed metal and plastic construction. Part 1 comes with a screwdriver. It would be expensive, but it would certainly be an impressive model. There have been a number of other large scale Star Car kits over the years, all around 1/8th.
