David Nightengale RIP
I was very sad to hear that Anderson superfan David Nightengale died last November.
David was a co-founder of Fanderson and the publisher of pioneering Anderson fanzines and magazines like SIG and Century 21. He was publicly celebrating Gerry's TV shows before anyone else had thought of it.
I corresponded with David about Project SWORD and various other Anderson topics over the years and he was always generous with his knowledge and enthusiasm.
Through his Blackpool shop Thunderbooks I subscribed to the US Toy Shop newspaper by mail order. David always got me my toy fix every month without fail. I adored Toy Shop.
David also stocked many fine comics and books and over the years he supplied me with lots of Eeries and Creepys and Anderson books.
The world of Gerry Anderson fandom is far less than it was with David's passing and we are all in some way indebted to his vision and pioneering spirit.

ROAR TALENT
There's a peculiar roar that occurs in some fantasies.
Its a monster's roar, which is slightly trombone-like.
Here's a good example, the Monster from the Id in Forbidden Planet.
https://youtu.be/IYFr3UyVpRA?t=146
The Cyclops in the 7th Voyage of Sinbad has a similar roar.

and here's Ymir from 20 Million Miles to Earth

Other fave roars include the beasts in the Lost World from 1960 and the similar monsters in Journey to the Centre of the Earth 1959.
Can you think of any more decent film roars readers?
YOU'RE OUR ONLY TROPE
Its always fun spotting similarities in our fave fantasy films. Everyone will know the famous scene in Star Wars, where Princess Leia projects a film from R2D2 speaking the iconic line, Help Me Obi Wan, You're our only Hope.
https://youtu.be/zGwszApFEcY?t=44
Well, I heard something very similar in a much older flick this week, the fabulous 7th Voyage of Sinbad, where Sinbad asks the Princess to move a large bolt.
Its a very similar line involving a Princess!
Have a listen. Its at 52.20.
What do you think?
Could there be more only hopes? Is it a trope?
Do you know any more similar lines in films?
The End of the Line
Preparing for painters coming to Moonbase I've stripped out some old cables.
I did it with a slight tear in my eye as these were telephone cables to the loft.
Back in 2004 when the attic was made into an Ebay office I installed a landline up there. Rather than get a twin phone set I decided to have as old a phone as I could have from my collection of old telephones.
I opted for a green GPO dial phone on my desk. It was fun seeing it alongside old toys for sale like Masters of the Universe or whatever I had in that day.
To do it I needed cables from the BT point two floors down! So up they went, those cables got tucked under skirting, hidden under carpets, tacked to stairs and walls and eventually ending up in the loft.
I think I got the phone cables from Wilkos. Great fun installing them.
So it was with sadness that I ripped them all out. I no longer need a landline phone in the loft because I no longer Ebay full time. That ended in 2007. My Power Seller days were over.
Since then the attic has become the traditional family dump for everything needed but unimportant, the exceptions being the Christmas decs and my old toys!
It's always a moment when one technology boots out another. Now it's just a landline downstairs and the ubiquitous all-knowing mobile. Hardly any cables.
I do miss those days in the attic answering toy queries on my dial phone.
Did you have landline phone cables everywhere readers? Did you have an extension phone?
VINYL MASTERS
I thought Wow! when I saw this old 45's case online.
Masters of the Universe no less!
I've never seen it before but I love those MOTU graphics!
Did you have a record case?

Farscape?
I caught five minutes of Farscape today. I was impressed with the outfits and make-up. For some reason it reminded me of Lexx.
Is Farscape any good?
