THE ACHE OF ETERNITY TONIGHT ON CELTICA RADIO

Hi Woodsy, this might be of interest to you. This months Squaring the Circle on Celtica Radio marks the return of Andrew John to the airwaves, reading a Vampire Horror Story called the Ache of Eternity.

It'll be on air on our live service at 8PM tonight, Sunday the 21st, and thereafter as a repeat at various times and also a Listen Again/Podcast download.

The Facebook artwork is attached, and that picture is actually Andy pulling a face! You may also find one of the fonts familiar - [earthman] - however, other than the font and Andy doing a decent impersonation of Colonel White for you guys, there is no connection with Captain Scarlet.

BATMAN AND THE BOOT SALE

 Made it to a winter car boot sale this morning. Yay! Just what Doctor Die-Cast ordered as I was getting withdrawal symptoms!

Today's catch - minus the Batmobile from last time - was a 1979 Hot Wheels Peterbilt truck, a Superfast cab and trailer, a Corgi GT 70, a Rolamatics tank and a Speed King Shovel Nose.

Back home I'd promised myself some me time to mess with my second battered batmobile you can see above.

This one gave up its dash and steering wheel when I tipped it up!

I painted the dash silver and made a scratch missile launcher out of a straw and a biro tube.

I then had fun scratching together a red plastic flame for the rear exhaust using bits of a plastic tie fastener.

I'm waiting for the model paint to arrive in the post before attempting the body. It'll be a brave new look for Bats I hope!

 Some more photos I've previously published on the blog, and this time it's the Sixteen 12 Space:1999 Retro Eagle Freighter which uses the same paint scheme as the later version of the vintage Dinky Freighter.

Buck Rogers Screen Debut

Here is a short Buck Rogers film from the 1930s, with Buck in a space battle with the Tiger Men of Mars. The budget was clearly rather limited, so do not expect too much. 

Given the attire of Wilma Deering, I wonder if fashion designer Mary Quant was a science fiction fan ? At one point Dr Huer urges Buck to 'get above' Killer Kane's ship - how do you get above someone in space ? This was apparently the very first screen appearance of Buck Rogers.

The background to this short is given on a site called Cafe Roxy. Seems it was made for the 1934 Chicago World's Fair - even though the copyright date on the film is 1935. It did not play in movie theatres, but may have been later used in department stores to help sell Buck Rogers toys.
