Old Haunts

Do you ever return to past places where you found some collectables in the hope of similar bounty?

I do. I did this holiday in the Yorkshire Moors but to no avail. Last year I found quite a lot of old toys. Gormiti boxed sets in a Teeside Charity shop in Stokesly springs to mind. Returning to the same shop like a wasp I was dissapointed to find nada, nichts, nowt.

In fact I've found not a single old die-cast car in thirty charity shops in the region. I can officially declare it a vintage die-cast desert, at least for now!

I did visit one of the two collectables haunts I have, one a shop and one a famous kiosk, in Whitby but the shop was .... shut! The kiosk in the old town was just too far to walk as Ive got a stinker of a cold and required hot tea and the sofa.

SUPERMAN HAS GOT A FAN

Its the last day of our holidays on the lonely hills of the Yorkshire Moors, a place we really adore, and since 1989 when our daughter was 5, our spiritual home from home. Now her own 5 year old son Junior is here with us all too, along with her own 2 year old daughter. Hopefully one day they'll also bring their own grandchildren to the beautiful Moors by the sea.

We also shared our rented moorland house with Superman - or to be more precise - a Superfan. Junior loved this toy gadget and his joy reminded me of the happiness that holiday toys bring to kids. I was no different half a century ago when my Mum and Dad took me to Butlins. I'm sure you felt the same about getting toys - and comics - on your holidays. Is that right?

No Pedals!

Junior has a balance bike. Here it is at dusk. It hasn't got pedals so you can push yourself around and lift your legs up at speed. He gets quite a trot on this thing especially down slopes.

Is a balance bike a new thing? I don't recall having one. I had a bike with balloonish tyes and one with rock hard rubber tyres that killed when you went over a bump!

What little bikes do you remember?

SOMA 12x12 CLIMBER

 

This Soma vehicle looks ace and really recalls the design of the Explorer 12 fleet we have covered many times.

DAVID SISSON MODELS AT CROMFORD MILLS

 Another set of photos I took at the recent Cromford Mills  model display, and this time I'm showcasing just some of the models of David Sisson, who incidentally was one those people instrumental in organising the event.

                                   Thunderbird 2 is always popular with me.

                      Fab 1 model which was used a Swinton Insurance advert.

                                         David brought along several Thunderbird models.

                                                 Thunderbird 5 minus its lower pylon.

The indestructible and very popular, Captain Scarlet.

          I think I'm right in thinking David is a big Terrahawks fan, certainly of the vehicles at least. 

I suspect David is also fond of Space Precinct. He brought along a great looking screen used prop of  the Demeter Police Cruiser,

Kleeware Frogman Boat

                Found this photo on Pinterest of the Kleeware Frogman Boat, and thought it might be of interest, given that frogmen seem to be a popular subject on Moonbase. The model is boxed, in red and yellow plastic, with figures, and a firing gun.

THOSE BEAUTIFUL FROSTED PLASTIC WINDOWS

I adored small opaque plastic windows on toys when I was a kid. They were a staple on lots of toys especially futuristic vehicles.

Here's one I really remember, the rear yellow hatched screen of the Matchbox Lamborghini Marzal. I loved it! This one was online.

But my absolute fave opaqued windows were the two green bottle bottom panes hidden behind the clear canopy of the wonderful Alps Moon Explorer. Here's one pictured online and you can just see those two windows at the back. How I adored them and still have a nice example of this amazing Japanese space toy.
