ROB'S MAJOR CHANGE: THE AOSHIMA RED HAWK YAMATO #3

Here is my latest Japan SF curiosity, from around 1980 I think. From good old Aoshima. 

According to some eBay listings for the kit, it’s called “Red Hawk Yamato #3: Major Change.” Major change is right! 

It’s the Battleship Yamato in one of its many Red Hawk SF incarnations, from an Anime program I assume (?), but mutated into some ungodly Formula 1 racing car. 

Of course, the scale of the automobile would be about 1:24, while the scale of the battleship is more like 1:400, so the whole thing is just an impossible concept vehicle. Which is why I love Japan SF: they did not shy away from the impossible. Enjoy!

REMEMBERING FANDERSON 2019: THE ART DISPLAY

One of the most popular displays at Supercelebration was the art display which included many examples I'd not seen before, and kindly displayed by their respective owners. There was a lot of original pages from TV21, Lady Penelope, Joe 90 (Top Secret), Solo and Countdown. Some original Space:1999 art from Look -In magazine too. I found the original art from TV21 in particular really nostalgic as I, like many my age looked forward to reading the comic every week during the mid to late sixties, and getting the annuals every Christmas.

Snows of Mars

Well here we are on the cusp of a new year (well in the UK anyway!) and 20 has been one of the most difficult peacetime years ever. Here's hoping 21 brings hope and positivity across the globe and is better in many ways for everyone. So have a safe and secure New Years Eve, be strong and as resolute as possible and with luck next year will be an upturn for us all. Happy New Year from Marsbase!
