THAT LITTLE PLASTIC OUT-HOUSE NOVELTY

I recently bought an Og the Bog game in a charity shop for me and the Grandson to play.  He hated it - largely because it had a sudden exploding action which scared the hell out of him! He is only 3!

Seeing Og's old hut totally reminded me of a toy novelty I had as a kid, 

the Out House.

Typical of Sixties plastic fancy goods and novelty toys, it used a lot of plastic and came in a box. I probably got it from my the cash and carry warehouse where my Dad was manager.

The Out House involved a hillbilly boy who, on opening the door, turned round to pee on you! I can clearly remember filling the tank it was stood on by removing the little red mushroom at the side. As always You Tube feature footage of it.

The gag was extended to Hippies for some reason so we got the Hippie Out House, largely because of the play on words 'Peace on You'!

The bursting Hippy was let out of the out house and placed on a Peace On Barrel too!

The hillbilly escaped the out house too and ended up the Trick Pee Boy in a bag with a huge bulb and pipe to create the same effect

There were also less tasteful and downright tacky variations of the pee pee novelty like Weepy the Wee Wee, Little Squirt, Bubbling Boy and Sexy Susan but I'll leave these to the imagination rather than inconvenience you further!

LET THE RIGHT PRAWN IN

Being home alone at the mo I settled down with the Moonbase Mutt last night and enjoyed a rare Chinese takeaway and a film on Amazon prime. Muttley got a large hide chew.

The takeaway was stupendous - prawn toast, ribs in BBQ gravy, roast pork in black pepper and boiled rice - and a bag of crackers and some crimson gloop. Half of its left for tonight! Blue said the chew was very chewy.

With sticky fingers I failed to find any decent new sci-fi films on Prime - it seems quite limited - so I opted for The Dark, a 2018 horror. The blurb compared it to Let the Right one In, a unique Scandi vampire story, which I liked a lot. So into The Dark I plunged spare rib in hand.

It is like Let the Right One in on the surface but fortunately it is its own story - essentially a boy and a ghoul - and going to a different place altogether. I won't spoil it, suffice to say it was well-acted, beautifully filmed and held my attention till the end. If you don't like teenage leads with unusual appetites then avoid but everyone else in the film is a burly adult, of whom most ... well, die. 

The second flick I watched was a new spy tale called Official Secrets. Starring Keira Knightly as a staffer with the British intelligence services, the film is based on a true story of whistle-blowing before the second Gulf War. The interplay between journalists, police, shady security guys and the couple at the heart of the flick is nail-biting. As in concerns official secrets and treasonable acts I shan't go into it any further lest I blab too much! needless to say if you liked All the Presidents Men, Spotlight and stories where Newspapers break huge stories then this is for you.

Munching Chinese Crackers too quickly, I tried another spy flick after that with Ewan McGregor and a bunch of Russians in Marrakesh but couldn't cope with all the noise so off it went.

Not sure what to watch tonight with my second prawn toast special. Spies and Space would be good for me. Bones and lady dogs for Blue! Any ideas?

A LOT OF FUN

This bunch includes our friend the LP space Rocket with 'floating' astronaut and a nice bronze colour space capsule. Do you recognise it readers?

CENTURY 21 PUBLISHING UPDATE

A few updates for collectors:

Bengo Annual by Century 21 (released 1969) as a spin off/tie-in. The dog Bengo appeared in the Candy and Andy comics [source: Graeme Bleatham]

ATV Merchandise: Fanderson's FAB magazine contained a piece on Gerry Anderson's ITC merchandise not from his own series. It appears that Century 21 also published under the name 'ATV Merchandise'. It says that their first 'license' was for 'The Saint' so the later 'Saint' annuals + books were made under license from C21.

Exclusive licenses: The Champions, The Prisoner & Man in A Suitcase, so The Champions book (Sixth Sense is Death),the Man In A Suitcase book (Sleeping Cupid) and The Prisoner Dinky Mini Moke were all made under licence to Century 21

Century 21 also had an exclusive license to 'Department S' and it appeared as a strip in the later 'TV Century 21 & TV Tornado' Comic, these strips were later reprinted in Holland in their comic 'TV2000' - later they added all the stories together and brought it out as a one-off/collection with no credit to Century 21 (Is this the same thing as the Dutch 'Monkees' annual?).

KNOCKOFF HORNET RING

I liked this knockoff Green Hornet ring I saw on an old sale.

Its simply called the Hornet and was available in vending machine capsules in the States. Did you have one?

Looks like it was a fairly cheaply made hornet insect. the vending card has the show's Black Beauty and the man himself in profile.

Here's my latest little gouache painting, again inspired by a 1950s Hong Kong toy header. The only real modification I made was changing the passenger airplane the boy was holding into something vaguely "Century 21."

I always love the bundles auctioneers come up with for mixed lots. Here's a choice bunch from Barnaby's online ages ago including Philips Philiform, a Commander Motor Boat and a Triang SpaceX LEM!
