CHRISTMAS EVE ON THE BASE

With the radio on on Christmas Eve, Earthside tunes diffuse around the comms bay and the Moonbase night-shift sits back to relax with a glass of something good.

Here we are again folks, the tipping point of the year, shortest day has passed and the preparations for Christmas (in the UK at least) are coming to an end.

I love Xmas, always have since I was a boy, even though its magic has paled and tarnished considerably over the last 50 years or so. Its been an interesting year with its highs and lows, we have lost may good friends recently including the wonderful Ken Holt and the maestro himself Mike Noble.

Its this which spurs me to write today, as although we feel the loss of the amazing talents and minds of the creators of the world which we celebrate on the blog, its important to bear in mind that we stand on their giant shoulders and like a multi stage rocket propelling a probe into deep space, although the mighty engines which lifted our hopes and aspirations up out of jealous gravity's well are now spent, the impetus and drive they have imparted, propel us speeding into new realms which we could never have hoped to reach as children gazing wistfully at coloured lights and tumbling snowflakes, falling from a starlit sky.

I am useless at sending cards and remembering birthdays, but I would just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their companionship, support, enthusiasm and help on and off the blog. So in no particular order, Mike, Ed, Paul V, Evil Ed, Tony, Arto, Andy, Terra, Kid, Mike Mc, Ev, Terry, Ran, Hugh, Kev and all the wonderful people who stop by and enjoy the blog and chip in on the sidelines. I wish you all a great xmas and a fabulous New Year.

BUDDY SASQUATCH

I must have seen the movie ELF at least ten times. Its a Christmas staple now like Home Alone and A Christmas Carol.

Watching it again yesterday I noticed Buddy's strange walk through the woods properly for the first time. I knew I'd seen that stroll before.

I'm not alone. Lots of folk have as you see above via You Tube.

Its the Bigfoot walk in the woods! Ha ha.

UFOCARD: CHRISTMAS AT SHADO

I'm not sure how those good people at SHADO celebrate Christmas. I suspect Alec Freeman will be wandering around the base with a sprig of mistletoe, hoping to bump into Colonel Lake. Paul Foster will be partying I'm sure, but I reckon he'll leave out the sauna until his hang- over is well gone.

Keith Ford and Ayshea Johnson will probably be on duty so no fun for them, although Ayshea might sneak a puff on the odd cigar during her morning break.

Peter Carlin and the crew of Skydiver 1 will probably organise a dance competition, which Peter usually wins for some reason.

And what about those Moonbase Operatives. Well, the Moon might have no atmosphere, but I reckon the Leisure Sphere will be very festive and full of lunar 'Crackers'...(Yes, I know, corny, and not in keeping with todays progressive values , but hey, remember UFO was made in the early seventies!)

Straker will begrudgingly give Miss Eland Christmas day off , and will be probably visited by three aliens in his dreams who will just tell him to loosen up a bit. He'll just say, "Are you the SHADO's of the things that Will be, or the SHADO's of things that Might be?" (More corn I know, but anything Christmassy has to have a sprinkle of Dickens, doesn't it?)

And what about the aliens, themselves. Will there be a Christmas armistice or will they just work through?
