Johnny Lemon: Replacement Apple Canopy for Supercar

If I had the money I could well imagine collecting Supercar toy vehicles.

Even then I might have to replace scarce spare parts with alternatives. Maybe in the spirit of my Johnny Lemon household spares I've blogged about before.

So when I read an old comment about the Fairylite Supercar by reader Paul Vreede from 8 years ago I thought, yes! that's so ersatz!

"I'm just wondering, since I don't know the size of this thing, but that canopy looks rather similar in shape to a transparent Apple Mac mouse?"

I looked into the Apple pro Mouse. Here's its clear cover:

Its a transparent domed pill-shape cover that sits on the mouse.

Paul's right, it is like the domed pill-shaped canopy of the Fairylite Supercar!

Here they both are side by side, although not to scale.

We know how big a computer mouse is but what about the Supercar? Would it fit?

The Fairylite Supercar is approx. 8 inches long. 

It might just work, the Apple Pro canopy!

Not sure it would do for the bigger Plaston Supercar though.
Thats about a foot long. That's 12 inches, the length of an ruler.

BLACK OAK ARKANSAS ON THE TURNTABLE TONIGHT

Just found a collection of LP's in my loft I forgot I had. No, not astronauts, albums!

Here's a band I've heard of but never heard, Black Oak Arkansas and their Long Player Balls of Fire from 1976 as featured on You Tube too.

Are you familiar with Black Oak Arkansas and their brand of southern rock?

THE TELSALDA THUNDERBIRD X-2: WHAT IS IT?

This is a strange bird.

The Telsalda Thunderbird X-2. I saw it on the Bay.

Now, Telsalda are not at the forefront of my mind when I think of space toys**

This one is real hotch-potch of names and styles.

Its a sort of Flying saucer space car with its name borrowed from Tracy Island  and X-Planes I suppose.

The red fins recall the red fins on the unrelated X-series of toys like the Space Racer, whilst the rear engines remind me of the rear of the Blue Bird Space Glider.

The box art has me stumped though! What is it?

And that's the Jimson crown logo in the bottom left corner!

Has anyone got this strange Telsalda Jimson concoction?

Arco Push 'n' Light Space Rocket: A Star Wars Turkey?

Sometimes you just know instinctively that a space toy is ugly.

We've seen some real dirt bags over the years on Moonbase.

But this toy is in that grey area between worlds, between not bad at all and a downright mess, in my opinion of course!

It's Arco's 1979 Push 'n' Light Spaceship.

I quite like the look of it for some reason but then again think its not something I would want.

One intriguing element is the non-battery light and sound. How does that work? A dynamo of some sort?

With it coming out in the early years of Star Wars fever there must be something of Lucas's universe in here. I'm just not sure what. Is it a knockoff?

Its ground-hugging design is quite novel though.

What do you think readers?

Captain Future's Toy Cupboard

Brother Midnight's suggestion about mystery header card art lead me to go looking for other possible Captain Future toys.

There are absolutely tons of them online and examples fro allover the world. It must have a been a global  hit when it was on TV in the late 70's!

I'm still not sure it's Captain Future art on the header card I posted yesterday but Captain Future has certainly spawned a whole toy chest of fab stuff over the years.

Mystery Space Robot Target Game

We've probably had this mystery toy on Moonbase before but like the proverbial goldfish I forget. My only excuse is that we are very close to our ten thousandth post on the blog!

This toy space gun set, which often turn up on Ebay, has card art that looks like its from a cartoon. Does anyone know what it is?

I saw this on Ebay today and its more or less the same toy, just different card art!

Made in Hong Kong, reading the small label at the bottom it looks like this one was a Canadian import.

Just noticed the top set above was made in China.

Brain Teaser

I heard a schoolkid say the phrase mental brain today. The word mental was being used an adjective.

I had to think about this. Can the brain be described as mental? Is it like saying a thoughtful brain or a mindful brain? Are these rubbish?

I suppose they could be tautologies. Where you say the same thing twice without one of the words being needed. Like hot fire or wet rain or living animate objects or missing one out alternately.

Can you think of better examples? What about the toy shop was full of toys?
