Growing up I was lucky to inherit some amazing annuals and also go to great 2nd hand book sales, the latter gave me a knowledge of old sci-fi that took me years to catch up on. 

The imagery of Space Kingsley drew me directly to Things to come. The Lion annual was a poor version of Dan Dare to me but the action of that cover still blows me away for its realism!! 

I know I've seen Space Kingsley models on your site, have any readers been inspired to build pre-1960's sci-fi models?

Hey Woodsy.

A bit of a mess here, a foot of snow and still falling. I am shoveling snow every 2 hours to keep from being snowed in. The good news is I spent the time between painting this model and in about an hour it should be assembled.

My mini Matterhorn is not quite as majestic as the Piz Gloria, but it's the most snow I've seen around here in almost 10 years.

Thanks to my trusty shovel , I am free to come and go, although I'd rather stay in.

The Glico Multi-Coloured Zero-X Toy

Here's another miniature Japanese Zero-X.

Spotted online by fellow Anderson fan Terry H, this multi-coloured OX is less common than the Morinaga version.

Its also far less accurate in its design.

It forms part of a small fleet of plastic miniature Thunderbirds toys and flat figures, which also includes the orange Radar Car above, a sort of  stretch Thunderbirds SpaceX Tractor T5 with an antenna.

They were made by Japanese candy giant Glico.

Interestingly in Dennis Nicholson's guide to Anderson memorabilia [the bible] a similar flat figure is shown next to a small plastic Wombat Air Force Jet and described as Guriko gifts as shown below.

I now think that Guriko is the same as Glico in the way that Gojira is Godzilla.

Am I right?

Or are Guriko and Glico different companies?

meths engine memory

I remember the smell of meths in the house when my older brother's toy steam engine was out.

It was attached to a piece of wood and meths was poured into the engine as its pink fuel.

Its hard to describe the smell of meths but its unique, a sort of dental petroly whiff. I've not smelt it for years and years.

The movement of the engine was wonderful though and I could have watched its cast iron wheels turning round all day.

Did you or do you have a working model 'steam' engine?

Flying Platform Toy by J. Cortes of Spain

I often see this vintage plastic toy on Todocollecion of Spain.

Its a flying platform and can be zoomed into the air using the green handle.

Have you got anything like this?

Morinaga Zero-X in the Locomotive Shed

I love browsing through Yahoo Japan at all the amazing Japanese Omake or small gifts.

Here's a recent basket of delights I saw including a Morinaga Zero-X snap-on kit in the middle, some small Thunderbirds models which I assume are Yujin and a whole shunt yard of fabulous plastic trains and locos.

What do you think readers? A fine bundle?
