tiny toy books

When I was a kid way back when I had a tiny book. It was miniature. I think it was a bible.

I seem to recall it was a key ring, hundreds of paper pages and had metal covers. It may have had a clasp too.

Its mixed up in my memories with a tiny fold-out concertina 'book' of holiday photographs I got one summer at the seaside. That may have been a key ring too.

Does any of this ring a bell with you readers?

The Spanish Madelman Mars Lander is a strong contender. Madelman and Matt Mason were similar sizes so it looks good.

the captain scarlet ambulance

Here are picture and observations from erstwhile pioneering Anderson cyber-researcher Marc J. Frattasio regarding the cool Captain Scarlet TV ambulance shown above.

"This unusually aerodynamic looking eight-wheeled ambulance made brief guest  appearances in Winged Assassin and Treble Cross.The Captain Scarlet ambulance appears to have been a one-shot, hand-made deal which was primarily fabricated from wood. 

Clear acetate plastic sheet was used for the windows. The wheels are the kind of  thing used with radio controlled model airplanes. The cab interior was fitted with the bust of a driver made from sculpted and painted plasticine clay. 

The model was fitted with operating lighting consisting of interior lights and flashing blue lights mounted over the cab. These lights were battery operated model railroad grain of wheat lamps. 

The Captain Scarlet ambulance was actually rebuilt from the yellow Crablogger control vehicle seen in the Thunderbirds episode Path of Destruction. Most of the wooden or fiberglass models used in the Supermarionation programs were 

finished using cellulose automotive paints. 

Such paints are easy to sand down and repaint. Thus, models finished with cellulose automotive paints were easier for the special effects technicians and modelmakers to repair or rework."

anyone remember wall walkers?

Back in the Sixties I got some weird little plastic toys one Crimbo called Wall Walkers.

It was a sort of double plastic frame with a smiley face at the top and suckers at the bottom. It was purple.

Once set up on a window it could 'walk' down it by flipping over itself a bit like a flat slinky!

I loved that wallwalker and thinking of it takes me right back to Christmas '69!

Grazing over the endless fields of You Tube I came across a series of short films using toy soldiers as props.

Having an interest in toy video making I was fascinated by the level of skill and movement in this sample, Toy Soldier, by Never Without a Picture.

Even if you are not a toy soldier fan I hope you'll find it interesting.

a right chuffin' christmas: Century 21 toys HUFF 'N' PUFF TRAIN

Keen-eyed Jim Lewis spotted this bit of Century 21 toys obscura on Ebay UK a few years back, the Amazing Huff 'n' Puff Hill Climbing Engine! 

A new one on me and continuing evidence that Century 21/ JR21 spread there wings beyond the futuristic toys of Gerry Anderson's TV shows and comics. 

Huff 'n' Puff is not to be confused with the 1960's US TV puppet show, HR Puf n stuf starring Britains young star, Jack Wild ( yes, the Artful Dodger no less). 

Not sure if it was ever shown in the UK - I never saw it. Finding it very difficult to spell for some reason, I could find only one toy on the whole of Ebay US, namely a flute and none on the UK site. So I assume it didn't spawn many toys.

Whilst watching my favourite film of all time recently, Enter the Dragon, starring the late great Bruce Lee, I came across this doppelganger of the above, this time on Ebay US and made by NASTA, 1971.

Its battery operated, made in Hong Kong and in a large box is measuring 15 x 8 inches. I've come across NASTA before I think - possibly a plastic lorry. I'll have to look it up.

Anyone have either of these chuffin' choo choos?
