LUCKY BAGS AND WUNDERTUTEN

Lucky Bags were an important part of the kidscape back in the Sixties. Like a penny mix, Lucky bags were what  pocket-money was made for.

I can remember that they were usually plain paper, maybe light blue  and always A4 or a similar size. For the life of me though, I can't recall what was in them!

Anyone got any idea?

SPANISH COOL: GUISVAL AND PILEN PININFARINA

I've only recently started to get to know the Spanish toy form Guisval. We saw there Angel Interceptor truck, the Super Panthera last year. Here's a cool car they did in the 1970's, the Pinninfarina. It reminds me of Strakers car in UFO!

MODERN MOONBASE: AOSHIMA SWORD RED

Nowhere near as colourful as the original Imai kit, here's more images of the modern UFO Moonbase reissue by Aoshima/ Iami/ Carlton. We can see clearly that the three SWORD vehicles are pre-coloured; the Scramble Bug and Moon Crawler being red and silver and the Moon Prospector light blue or silver. Do you like them readers?

The three vehicle names are written above them in Japanese. Is anyone able to send me these names as typed Japanese text at all, which I can copy and paste?

HARROGATE TOY FAIR 1965

We've probably seen this before at Moonbase but its as good second or third time round. Its British Pathe's footage of the Inetrnational Toy Fair in Harrogate 1965, just up the road from Moonbase Central! 

There's lots of tin robots and space capsules and even Bill's favourite Sixties accessory, the toy gun that shoots round corners!

1969 was a good year in Japan. For 50 Yen one of these bad boys could be yours! I found a small boxed version of the Echo Car years ago and were one of the first toys in my space collection. Have you got any of these readers?

In light of Woodsy's perplexing queries on the nature of steampunk and in a nod to the recent Jules Verne theme, here are some of my toys from Disney's Atlantis animation. Atlantis is a good few years old, but a lot of the design and art was by Hellboy artist Mike Mignola. Mattel picked up the toy licence and ran with it, bringing up all manner of figures, dolls and toys. Some of the toys were multiform 'construction' toys, with mix and match parts. Here we have the Landing craft in various guises and some of the Atlantean fish vehicles. The Leviathan was the large green Kraken analogue, which wrecked ships, itself an excellent toy.
