Budgie Supercar

This is my Budgie Supercar circa 1962.

 

 

 

I bought it at an early Fanderson for £15.00. The dealer had dozens of them. It appears that they were part of a consignment sent to South Africa in the sixties to coincide with Supercar being shown on TV. However,  I'm told it apparently never aired there , and merchandise including the Budgie Supercars were never distributed but left abandoned in some warehouse for years. Eventually someone must have bought up the stock and the Budgie Supercars along with other collectables found their way into the hands of memorabilia dealers.

It’s a simple die cast, around 4" long and reasonably accurate. The decals are good , but the paint finish isn‘t as good as more modern stuff, but I suppose that's only to be expected. The real downside are the wings which do go in an out but feel like they’re sliding on something inside which marks the paint.

 

The detail isn't quite up to the box artwork, but then what's new?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ROYAL MAIL GERRY ANDERSON STAMP SET INSERT FROM ED ICE BERG

Thought you might like this. I don't remember if it's been featured before, but this was a 4pg insert that came with the Royal Mail's tribute to Gerry Anderson stamps last year. My friend in Scotland sent me the set and it was great, along with the post cards they put out. The scans are hi-res so I'll send four separate e-mails.

Supercar Annuals

Some more Supercar Annual scans.

The first is from 1961 and illustrated throughout by Brian Lewis. Although, it's not as thick as an annual,  I would consider this the first.

The Supercar Annual from 1962 had artwork by Eric Eden and Jacqueline Dickenson, and stories written by Eric Eden and Sylvia Anderson. The annual had a story arc which involved the experimental rocket, Super-R.

 

 

The third and final Supercar annual from 1963 was illustrated by G. Wood and H.J. Cauldwell, with the stories being written by TV21 editor and scriptwriter, Alan Fennel. This also contained a story arc about the Maharajah of Subahn, a friend of Dr Beaker’s.

It’s worth mentioning that the TV comic annuals also carried Supercar strips starting in 1962 . Two had Supercar on the cover.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

TOMY ZERO-X THUNDERBIRDS PACHINKO GAME BY ARTO

Hi Woodsy
This TOMY scoring game comes in quite a large (38 x 19 x 17 cm) plain orange-white cardboard box with simple graphics. It is marked TOMY No. 10001100 / TP-26032 Made In Japan. The box top shows a boy cheerily playing the game, one of the Tracy brothers in lower left corner, plus Thunderbirds 1 and 2 in flight.

The game itself is made of orange plastic, with illustrated panels printed on tinplate. The main panel features TB's 2, 3, and 5 in space along with assorted characters from the series. The upright panel highlights Zero-X zooming away (note Zero-X depicted with only one lifting body). The game is mentioned in Dennis Nicholson's Gerry Anderson Memorabilia Guide on page 124.
