The great Tom Baker's Christmas message over on Cygnus Alpha Events on You Tube. He's 91. I thought I'd put in on MC [and I assume its not AI!]
The 4th Doc, Tom and his scarf, was part of that magnificent back-to-back pairing from my own generation's Dr. Who, with the fabulous Jon Pertwee immediately before him as the 3rd, my personal favourite.
Who was your favourite or back-to-back Doctors?
3rd and 4th remain my favourites too, but I did like the 5th. I don't bother with modern Who at all, haven't watched it in years. Stuck in the 70's me, but that's OK.
ReplyDeleteComplete agreement here. Tried hard to keep up again when Doctor WHO first rebooted, but the recent seasons…I miss the days when every adult seemed to have a cigarette going.
DeleteBaker's Who was part of a "British invasion" of shows broadcast here in the US on public television (as opposed to the commercial TV business). I was already too old for a children's show, but we nerds appreciated any sci fi we could get. I and my friends watched it casually, and became fans of the cast of the Baker era. I had no interest in other incarnations, but 4th Doctor still makes me smile.
ReplyDeleteFor me, it was the first three Doctors - William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, and Jon Pertwee. Then Tom Baker. All the modern shows are unwatchable.
ReplyDeleteMy all time fave is Baker, but, unlike Kevin, I also rate a couple of the modern Doctors.
ReplyDeleteEccleston had an excellent 'other worldly' intensity and authority, and Matt Smith absolutely nailed the character's deeply mature eccentricity, combined with an almost boy wizard like quality.
Great Doctors both.
