I had the real pleasure of seeing Godzilla Minus One at the cinema. My mate Mark and me were super impressed with this Japanese language film [subtitled].
Its a real return to form for the cinema for us in general as this was a cracker of a movie; well made, authentic, sincere and dramatic. The monster itself is sensational and the action is compelling.
A distinctly Japanese storyline, fascinating in itself, its set against the emergence of Gojira a few years after the end of World War II.
If you like Godzilla and have enjoyed the Hollywood run of films then Japan's Minus One will be right up your titanic alley.
Have you seen it? Best hurry in the UK, its already been around 5 weeks.
Here's a trailer.
As a big fan of the original movies, and some of the later ones, I'm keen to see this one at the cinema, if I get the chance.
ReplyDeleteIf not, I'll definitely get the Blue Ray when it comes out.
You'll rnjoy it Mish. I now need to see the older Shin Godzilla.
Deleteenjoy!
DeleteI like that he appears to be about the same 200ft-ish height as the original Godzy. Latter day iterations got so ridiculous I thought they were just going to make him big enough to swallow the planet whole!
ReplyDeleteThat made me chuckle that Ed! Swallow the planet! ha ha
DeleteI'm with you Ed and Bettina.
ReplyDeleteThere comes a point where these giants are so big, they defy reason, and it becomes impossible for any human to survive around them.
For David to defeat Goliath, the stones he catapults at the giant have to be more than peas hitting a rhinoceros !
I have to say the bigger the better for me! Each to his own kaiju!
DeleteI haven't seen it yet, but the Director has previously made the Always Sunset on Third Street trilogy. It's a wonderful nostalgic look at growing up in post war Tokyo with the advent of the Tokyo tower, bullet trains and the 64 Tokyo Olympics. The futuristic worlds of people like Shigeru Komatsuzaki get a mention -as does Godzilla! Hmmm, looks like he finally got to do a full movie of that delightful cameo!
ReplyDeleteI must try to find that film Looey. Thanks for the tip.
