A long-put-off project saw the light of day this week.
Way back in 2020, during the UK's homebound lockdown, I kindly received some broken Thunderbirds toys in the post from Tony K and Bill to keep me sane. Tracy Aid no less!
Tony's JR21 Thunderbird 2 was 'restored' at the time, which I blogged back then but Bill's box was put sadly aside and gathered dust.
No more!
My first project from the box is to brush-up Bill's old busted childhood Dinky Thunderbird 2.
As a kid Bill had painted it black. You can see the original blue inside.
I didn't have any metallic blue paint and I like the original green. Compromising, I used the metallic 'Christmas' green I recently bought for Paul V's Hot Wheels.
My Blackbird brush-up is only half-finished but I wanted to post the work in progress thus far.
So, before.
After.
Hope you like it so far. Next I want to buy decent repro parts to finish it off properly.
For this 'shoot' I used two red Tomato puree caps for the exhausts and a bigger Matchbox TB4.
and finally, in homage to Bill's original repainted black bird here's a dark filtered picture of my own finish to give you an idea of Bill's sable coat in its heyday.
Watch this space for more.
The model is certainly looking good so far. The metallic green finish looks a lot better than the metallic blue that Dinky used.
ReplyDeleteThanks Paul. It turned out better than I expected.
DeleteIn my defence, that was an impulse buy from Donny Toy fair, a few years back and not my doing! Bill
ReplyDeleteMy bad. I thought it was young Bills!
DeleteMagnificent! SFZ
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you SF!
DeleteIn my defence, I bought it at Donny Diecast Fair in that state for £2! Bill
ReplyDeleteA Yorkshire bargain! Ha ha!
