This will be my first model project for 2024 - a vintage Brontosaurus Skeleton! I bought this kit about twenty years ago from Nick Argento of Glencoe Models.
This kit was originally manufactured by ITC (Ideal Toy Corp) and released circa 1964, and reissued in 1967 by Ringo. According to Argento, who reissued these sometime in the 90s, the molds were problematic and he didn’t run off too many of this kit, the T-Rex or the Stegosaurus.
I got this one minus a box, which was fine by me, as the price was right (I think he was trying to get rid of remaining inventory).
I’ll probably cheat and leave the bones in their ivory plastic color, but I’ll see what I can do with the base. There are so many weird bone parts - ugh! Stay tuned!
Did you have a kit like this?

The glory days of dinosaur kits live again! Its like a Willis O'Brian stop-motion model frame Rob! Can't wait to see the finished skeleton!
ReplyDeleteThe parts are fitting together really well so far, with a little whittling here and there. And gosh darn if it isn’t educational as you go along, connecting tibias with fibulas and so forth. It’s like taking High School Science class again! SFZ
DeleteI had a lot of fun with the Visible Man and other anatomy models.
ReplyDeleteWould love to see a Visible Dinosaur model with the organs inside.
(Yeah, I know it would be conjectural, but an awful lot of stuff about Dinosaurs is anyway.)
Now I'm anxious to see the built-up model! I've always loved dino's as a kid - hard to imagine any boy who wasn't infatuated with them at some point - but back then it was Marx or MPC dinosaur's for me.
ReplyDeleteAs a pre-teen, I was “All Dinosaurs All the Time.” Had all the Pyro dinosaur models, and they were priceless to me. Fifty years later, all I got left are the bones! SFZ
DeleteIt might seem odd, but there were at least two different Brontosaurus skeleton kits around at one time. The ITC model, later re-issued by Glencoe, and the Palmer Plastics version.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the model.
Yes, I built the Palmer “American Mastadon” and it was a very cool kit. SFZ
DeleteThe Mastadon is coming!
