I thought I'd take a break from sci-fi kits and tackle a couple of car kits.
The first is an AMT Sunbeam Tiger V8, a partial reissue of the AMT Get Smart car, but without the gadgets. The car in the TV series was customised by AMT's Gene Winfield, the man behind Star Trek's, Shuttlecraft, and The Man from UNCLE, Piranha.

The second kit is an AIRFIX 1914 Stutz Bearcat, similar looking to the car seen in the short lived TV series, Bearcats, which used two replicas in the show, built by customizer, George Barris, the man who created the sixties TV Batmobile.

Rod Taylor and Dennis Cole as Hank Bracket and Johnny Reach in 'Bearcats'.
There's a show I missed completely!
ReplyDeleteShort lived, and only 13 episodes. It was on TV around the same time UFO originally aired. I saw the pilot movie, Powderkeg, at the the cinema.
DeleteI have very vague memories of the Bearcats. I had the model kit though and it included 2 water jacketed machine guns that mounted on each front fender.
ReplyDeleteNever had that original kit, myself, Lance, although I've seen examples with the guns fitted. Sadly, my reissue doesn't have that option.
DeleteGood luck with these Scoop, two great looking cars. Alas, I've don't recall watching Get Smart as a kid, although I've seen lots of collectables connected to the show in reference books. Bearcats looks good too, I know Rod Taylor from the brilliant Hitchcock film The Birds.
ReplyDeleteThanks Woodsy. I don't think the Tiger is going to present too many build problems, it looks fairly simple; The Bearcat might need a bit of care, though, particularly the coachwork lines.
DeleteI can't believe you didn't watch Get Smart as a kid. I loved it, along with all those campy spy series like UNCLE and I-SPY.
I can understand how Bearcats might have passed you by. Once I've built the Stutz I'll do a proper in depth look at the series.
Rod Taylor, of course plays the Time Traveller in George Pal's classic sci-fi film, The Time Machine.
Can’t wait to see what you do with these legendary automobiles! SFZ
