I picked up a set of Hot Wheels DC Superheroes models from the 2022 range.
In a rare stroke of luck, I managed to get the whole lot in one shop, no need to go on a hunting expedition to several shops to find the last one or two models needed to complete the set.
These models are from another of the Hot Wheels premium lines, this time the Character Car series. The series name now appears on the card itself, making them easier to identify. This time there are six models in the set - but they form two distinct sub-groups. Some have a working Action Feature.
The first three models come on dark red and black cards, and are tied-in with The Batman movie.
Batman - with the new-style Batmobile that looks like an ordinary American road car, except for the suggestion of a cape at the rear. Black with grey interior, and tampo-printed lights. New model 2022.
Selina Kyle - no mention of her Cat Woman name. Another ordinary looking road car. All black. New model 2022.
The Riddler - Off-roader in two-tone green, with a brown canvas tilt. Black patch on the doors, with a white question mark. New model 2022.
The next three models come on much brighter, light blue cards. Each car is decorated in a scheme that matches the costume of the character depicted.
Superman - Red and blue, with a touch of yellow. Originally released in 2019.
Wonder Woman - Red, blue, yellow, and white. Originally released in 2019.
The Flash - Red and yellow. Originally released in 2012.
All the models are of mixed metal and plastic construction, with tampo printing. Made in Thailand.
The card is wider than a normal Hot Wheels card, and is printed in colour on both the front and back. The back has a panel showing all six models in the series. Copyright date 2021.

I saw The Batman about a year ago. I recall zilch about it, only that it was filmed in the dark. I had no idea Catwoman and the Riddler were in it Paul! Lovely die casts though. I can see the appeal of all these carded cars.
ReplyDeleteIm never keen on these character models, as the pedant in me says that the characters dont actually drive cars! It also smacks of milking a franchise too, especially with the likes of Star Wars, where there are no actual 'cars' at all! The Flash car looks like a nice design, if it wasnt branded in dc livery. I saw Batman a while back, over three nights as it was so long and intense. I really enjoyed it, but still prefer Christian Bale as my go-to Dark Knight. Bill
ReplyDeleteI mostly agree with Bill about character cars, but occasionally HW produces something that really tickles my fancy. The Rogue One K2SO which is a sinister black truck is the best design I've ever seen. I also have the HW Beatles Yellow Submarine series which has some odd choices for the characters. A Mini for George Harrison is spot on, but the others like the Cockney Cab for John miss the mark. I'm sure they could have produced a psychadelic Rolls Royce without too much difficulty!
ReplyDeleteNice haul Paul! While I generally stopped collecting Bat-stuff and superhero toys, every now-&-then a pretty little bauble catches my eye and I just have to get it. :-)
ReplyDeleteHot Wheels have done a large number of Batman die-casts, in the Mainline, 5-packs, and various premium sets. Plus some larger scale models. Unlike most of the Star Car models which are limited to a single official colour scheme, they have been allowed to go mad with the colour schemes on their Batman models, so most of the models are available in a multitude of different finishes. Great fun.
ReplyDeleteFor me, the top Batman actor is Adam West from the 1960s TV series. I never could get in to the modern movies, which lack the fun and humour of the classic TV series.
