Some times you wonder what toy designers were doing the night before they went to work.
K's Flying Saucer has to be result of a baroque bender in bars near Versailles!
Like a space gateau, its a saucer-full full of gold looking for a Chateau.
Unbelievably the box says CAUTION: Not Recommended for Children!
So who is it for?
What do you think of it?
Snoop Dog’s other ride
ReplyDeleteah yes, ha ha.
DeleteThe upper right corner of the box also says Bump & Go Action - Lighted Cockpit - Space Noise. I am not sure what the latter would be.
ReplyDeleteActually it says Caution: Not Recommended For Children Under 3 Years Of Age. There is just a very large gap between the words Children and Under.
Space. Noise. That would have done for me as a kid. I want it!
ReplyDeleteThis beautiful toy is a great example of the unfettered imagination that went into spacecraft toys during the pre-Apollo, pre-Star Wars era, after which toys slavishly tried to replicate the “realistic” look of “plausible” spacecraft. This earlier period is my favorite, because the designs borrow from pulp magazine art, fantasy design, and even folk art influences. If the designers of this toy had a few too many the night before they created this beauty, more power to ‘em! Also, blinking colorful lights were a big part of the space toy genre back then, and again, even though it ain’t realistic, it’s something much, much better: FANTASTIC! SF_Ziggurat
ReplyDeletehear hear Zig!
DeleteJust got your pun Woodsy. Excellent.
ReplyDeleteHowever, dont like the toy. It looks like a gaslight lampshade, with a knobbly ashtray on the top.
