And so we come to the most intriguing of the original three Shogun Warriors releases, Raydeen.
His face, with its Ancient Egyptian beard and collar is striking enough, but if you look on the sides of his head, there are two giant sideways eyes!
Laying the robot on to his back, you suddenly realise his entire head, including the face shields and pointy helmet crest actually form a gigantic eagle's head!
Most of the restoration for this toy was working on missing or damaged decals and replacing the missing arm launcher and flying cutter blade fist.
As I mentioned earlier, working with Japanese characters that are only 6mm high requires a lot of vector work before they can be laser printed.
I 3D scanned my original launcher and cutter fist, but battled with the lumpy surface finishes I came up with. I tried 3D modelling a new launcher as a comparison, but ultimately used the lumpy prints with a good dose of old fashioned hand-sanding to somewhat improve everything.
The original black polythene fists appear dark blue, but as I tried to match the colour, I found they were actually very dark purple!
And here is the gang all back together again. As I say not 100% convincing forgeries, but certainly good enough for any display!
Hope you like them!
