Yesterday saw a lot of Action man action on TV.
First there was an Ebay advert which features a vintage figure being sent in the post. Is this the Action Sailor?
Later on, much later came Xtro.
This 80's alien gorefest features an Action Man throughout. I can't find a piccy of it but it eventually grows to full size to terrorise some poor victim.
What is that? Action Soldier?
It may be a '90s Action Man figure being used, W, but it sure doesn't look like any AM face I've ever seen and I've got quite a few.
ReplyDeleteInteresting Kid, so its not a vintage Action Man but its made out to look like one!
DeleteDepends what you mean by vintage. It doesn't have the '60s hands, build or face, but it's reminiscent of ones from the early '90s and beyond.
DeleteXtro was released in 1982 Kid. Must be an older figure of some sort then.
DeletePalitoy stopped producing Action Man around 1984 or '85, and their figures didn't have hands, faces, or bulkier bodies like the ones in these two photos. Hasbro purchased the AM name from Palitoy and reintroduced AM in the early '90s, but just like the '60s, he was a renamed G.I. Joe. A different G.I. Joe from the '60s one though. I doubt the figure you show in the first two photos from the ad comes from earlier than the '90s.
DeleteThanks for your insights Kid, you know your Action Men. You'll do for me.
DeleteI haven't seen Xtro, Woodsy. I'll look out for it.
ReplyDeleteVery gory but a decent story Tone. Its on YT but you have to verify your age with a photo of some kind of ID. At least that s what they said to me!
DeleteI'm fairly certain that the GI Joe/Action Man body in question here is a Hall of Fame body. Our first clue is the hands. They aren't the hard hands from 1964-1973. They are way too beefy to be the Kung Fu Grip from 1974-1984 (including Palitoy). The classic collection hand is less thick (1995-2004). That leaves us with the HOF body used in the US from 1991-94 and 96 in the UK.
ReplyDeleteThe chest is quite broad which was a trait of the HOF body.
The arm poses are quite similar to the severely limited articulation of the HOF body, mainly due to the muscles molded into them. In those pics that's about the extant of ttheir bend.
The legs are stiff and close together. The HOF body used rubber legs (and arms) with a knee rachet. Think how Barbie/Ken legs are and you'd be spot on. The fact the figure's legs remain together in that shot tells me this is not a Classic Collection body which had somewhat loose hip joints.
The head appears to be slightly modified, perhaps painted to skirt Hasbro's eyes.
So as a Joe collector, my opinion is, with 99% certainty, that this is a HOF Joe/Action Man.
An education Lance, thanks very much. Hall of Fame is all new to me, so I'll take your word for it.
