I know its natural for our generation to collect the old toys we had but will today's youngsters do the same? As far as I can tell toys are on the wane and computer games have taken over. So will they collect old computer games and blog's devoted to them?
Are we the last generation to collect old toys? What do you think readers?
Even though games are the hot ticket of today with their own collector community, I do not quite share your grim prediction Woodsy. Just look at the wealth of toys that's still being produced. And it is a natural part of human development to grow attachment to transitional objects of your childhood. Ergo, there will always also be some poor souls stuck forever in that transitional state (we know who we are).
ReplyDeleteha ha, I love that last line, poor souls stuck forever in that transitional state. Isn't that Limbo Arto!?
DeleteLooking at some of the collecting channels on you tube, many are by older men and women, but also many by younger collectors (Laura Legends, Bella's Toy Chest, and others). They mainly cover the toys they remember, the action figures of the 1980s and 1990s, but they are still collecting toys. The toys that we collect, from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, may become a niche area, but there are still people today who collect the cast iron toys of the 19th Century, so there will always be some people collecting and loving the toys we once played with. There is still hope.
