Hi
Here is a most interesting promotional film from the 1960s for the latest Irwin Allen TV series, Land of the Giants. Found on You Tube, although it looks as though it might be an extra from a DVD release ? Just under nine minutes. There is no footage at all from the series itself, everything is shown using early concept art. The Spindrift is totally different to what we see in the programme, and looks to be the Jupiter 2 from Lost in Space - why waste old footage ? The characters and names are different in some cases. The clip ends with actor Dan Matheson, who played Mark Wilson, stating that this is the story for the first episode of the new series - and then encountering a giant cat.

Those pesky cosmic photons! So much more dangerous than Earth based photons!
ReplyDeleteInteresting reuse of the Jupiter 2 design, to the point of commissioning new concept art with the old ship!
That's from the bonus features section of the Lost In Space DVDs.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness Peter Linglehopper was changed to Fitzhugh. The Spindrift shares the same issue with the Jupiter II, it has more rooms inside than is feasible given the outside dimensions. Also the Jupiter II was two levels and had the Space Pod and Chariot wedged into it somewhere.
My fave bit from the promo is B9 rolling backwards, saying screw your statue, eat manipulator arm! as he covers their escape.
