This set was released on 1st October 1998. According to Linn's Stamp News, the five 32 cent stamps are entitled or at least described as: Space City, Space Ship Landing, Humanoid in Space Suit, Space Ship Ascending , and Large Domed Structure. Given the title Humanoid in Space, one wonders if these even depict humans in space, or aliens ? 1998 U.S. Stamp Program (linns.com)
According to some quick research, Attila Hejja (1955-2007) was a Hungarian-born artist who created quite a bit of space-themed illustrations during his career

Perhaps noteworthy too that the print linked above names the artist as Atilla Hejja, which might just be a misspelling. Not too infrequent a happenstance with foreign names.
Looks like he was a great artist Arto and one I've not heard of. There must be lots of great artists that go largely unnoticed. I'd glad he made a set of stamps.
This looks very Bob McCall to me.
ReplyDeleteWas he the artist ?
It does look like his hand Mish I agree.
ReplyDeleteFound this online. The illustration, designed by Attila Hejja, was also available in print form

Living on the edge Arto! Yes! Thanks for the info. Great research! Now that's a name! Attila!

Humanoid is an odd word to use. Maybe not alien but not quite human perhaps Paul!
