I posted this some time ago, but its such a wonderful toy, I thought it worth flagging up again.
Here's the first part of an occasional series highlighting Army toys from the sixties. With the Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam, the Cold War and countless other battles in the news, toymakers seized the opportunity to put guns and tanks in every boys hand. Alongside the Topper Rocket Base, was the Armoured Battalion, clearly from the same stable of toy design. With atomic bombs and nuclear shells on the horizon, Topper showed us what a full on heavy howitzer and missile launching half track could do.
Although non motorised, these toys were tough and durable and like the Titan rocket, packed quite a punch.

Very neat sets. They have that angularity of design that was popular - much like MPC's offerings
ReplyDeleteYep, look like they could withstand a nuclear strike head on!
ReplyDeleteI sure do remember the Johnny Seven brand, though!
ReplyDeleteMe too - although I never got one! (Weeps quietely)
