I've been watching the old Sci-fi flick the Lost Missile on You Tube. Its from 1958 and comes in at over two hours long.
Now I have to say I'm struggling with the Lost Missile. It has a peculiarly stiff documentary style with frequent dramatic narration about the progress of the missile, lost from another world and in orbit around Earth causing havoc along the way.
The posters of the time promised much and I'm wondering if I'll ever see that devilish but exciting hand in the sky or is it simply artistic licence? I shall give it a bit longer and maybe lose a few minutes and skip into the second hour!
In the meantime here are the American and Swedish cinema posters from past auction sites.

Have you seen The Lost Missile? What did you think?
The Lost Missile is one of my favorites from childhood. Other than the fact that it is really low-budget. and the f/x are sub-par, I always thought it was a terrific thriller. The idea of a rampaging nuclear threat is eerily similar to stuff which as happened in more recent times.
ReplyDeleteI still need to finish it Zigg. I have a habit of half watching films! It is a fascinating idea, a rampaging missile. Could almost be a virus!
DeleteI have just finished watching this film. Actually, it is only about 70 minutes long, with the rest of the running time of the You Tube offering being taken up with a repeat of the second half of the film, which is odd. You did not mention the amazing array of 1950s US and British/Canadian aircraft in the film, although the claim that Gloster Meteor jets could do 1200 mph is so funny I was convulsed with laughter. They also jump between shots of different aircraft types in the same scene, but this is a common fault with many films and TV shows. Overall, a good movie, and well worth watching. Sorry, there is no giant hand reaching down from the sky, and the origin of the Missile is never explained, nor do we ever find out if it is manned.
ReplyDeleteRight, I really must finish off this film! Thanks Paul. Great observations!
