Hi Woodsy,
I hope all is well at Moonbase Central. I have been enjoying all the posts. Happy Easter.
Regarding the recent posts on Spanish money boxes, here are a few plastic boxes that I have had since the 1960s (or perhaps early 1970s).
All were issued by local banks. None have an opening for removing coins, and would have to be cut open.
The gold Astronaut is standing on the lunar surface. The names of various seas are moulded in - the Sea of Tranquility is on the back. There is a paper label on the front of his chest, this is for the C.B.A. BANK, which was the Commercial Bank of Australia.
The coin slot is in his backpack. Moulded on are the instructions 'take me to the commercial savings bank when full. Bank your savings & receive a new spaceman free'.
Height is 144 mm. I would assume there were other colours.
I also have a rather basic rocket, but can not find this at the moment.

Very interesting Paul. If you find the rocket then do share it. Has NZ got a space programme?
ReplyDeleteThere is a New Zealand Space Agency, which I did not know even existed until looking it up just now, which was founded in 2016 to make rules. Here is their address https://www.mbie.govt.nz/science-and-technology/space/ if you want to have a look. There is also a private company called SpaceLab which launches small satellites.
ReplyDeleteI will send in photos of my rocket money box when I find it again.
Fascinating. I read about the NZ Space Agency from your link. Thanks. Wonder if they have any jobs?
DeleteI collect moneyboxes from CBA and other CBA paraphenalia. Looking for a blue spaceman
ReplyDeleteHi Unknown, sorry, I can not help with your search for a blue astronaut money box. I have had all mine since childhood. The gold one is the only example I have, and I do not even know what other colours existed. Sometimes the odd example turns up at a fair for collectors, either toys and models, or more general fairs. It is possible there may be some clubs or informal groups of money box collectors around, and it might be possible to make contact. Sorry I could not be of more help. Good luck with your search.
ReplyDeleteHi Paul. Love your money box. These are classics. I have a few blue, 2 shades of orange and the gold. Kind regards from Oz.
