I had these as a kid, Kevin, but sadly I don't have them anymore. They were great fun. In the sixties, Smiths Crisps also released a set of mail-away plastic Thunderbirds. A fab find for your collection :)
I've got them as well, acquired around a year and a half ago. Had them as a kid as well, plus TB1 & TB3. Could you do me a favour, Woodsy? Look at your TB2 front-on - does the right-hand wing (on the left from your pov) slant slightly upwards, and does the tail-fin (or whatever it's called) slant down on one side? Mine certainly doesn't look damaged, but it's not as symmetrical as I'd have expected.
Well, you did a great job, 'cos it wasn't immediately apparent to me. Next time you've got your TB2 out, do me a favour and put it on a flat surface head-on to you and just double-check whether the right wing (on your left as you look at it) slants slightly upwards or not, will you? Ta.

ReplyDeleteHi, I don't think the wings are off on mine but the whole tail assembly and engines are scratchbuilt by me as they were missing on mine!

DeleteJust had a look and you're right, mine too has a slight slant as you described.
DeleteThanks, Kevin. I guess they were all like that then.
DeleteScrtchbiult? They look perfect Kev!
ReplyDeleteThanks. It's small and toy like so I could get away with it!
ReplyDeleteI had the Smith's crisps ones - and they were nice - but the wrong colours: TB1 was yellow: TB2 was red:TB3 was green: TB4 was blue.
