Hello Woodsy,
As part of your general Space Theme back in 1971 Brooke Bond Tea issued a set of picture cards called The Race Into Space.
When Brooke Bond did these sets, in order to promote the educational value they would produce a poster version for distribution to schools. The early ones were canvas backed with wood rods top and bottom like old wall maps.
By the 70's they were paper.
This is my copy.
Not as exciting as SPACEX which was it's contemporary but interesting never the less.

Part of my childhood too! I think my folks still have the book! The poster is essentially how the book was laid out???- Mark J Southcoast Base
ReplyDeleteIt is unusual this wallchart. I've never seen one before Terran. Nice that you managed to keep it.
ReplyDeleteI think the wallcharts were aimed at schools, primarily, the cards were printed onto the poster. I remember the series about three after Race into Space, which was followed by History of Aviation and The Sea our Other World - both fabulous sets too, but then came Adventurers and Explorers, which even though it had an astronaut on the cover, was dull as dishwater! My school had the poster on the wall.
ReplyDeleteIn 1974 before moving to the US from the UK I bought a number of different wall posters from Brooke Bond as gifts for US cousins as they included such things as Historic British Costumes, History of Aviation & Prehistoric Animals. I still have a few.
ReplyDeleteAviation and Prehistoric Animals were really great card sets. Ive got a lot of my dads early sixties tea card albums, from before I started picking them up with the dinosaurs one.
