When I was a young fella I lived in a flat in the late Seventies and once read a book all through the night without stopping!
It was Fire From Heaven by Michael Harrison.
It concerned spontaneous human combustion and for some reason I was fascinated.
Last year I found another copy of the book in a charity shop and started to re-read it.
Its not quite the old flame I recall and I'm struggling to focus 40 years on!
But in one of those strange flashes of serendipity, last night I randomly chose a You Tube film to while away the evening with Blue the dog.
It was ..... Spontaneous Combustion no less!
Directed by genre-forming Tobe Hooper of Texas Chainsaw fame Spontaneous is a 1990 slice of body horror at the tail end of the VHS boom.
The flick stars B-movie prince Brad Dourif who has a similar atomic origin to the Hulk as the only son of America's first nuclear family. Yes, they lived on a test base.
Needless to say Brad can't contain his pent-up core and like a fission out of water he sets everyone on set alight.
Its a mess but somehow watchable.
I doubt very much whether Spontaneous Combustion spawned any toys or merchandise, although Brad himself went on to voice Chucky and appear in perhaps his most memorable role since Billy Bibbit in One Flew Over, The Lord of the Ring's Grima Wormtongue, Saruman's man in Rohan.
It is maybe Brad's only appearance as a toy. Or?
Have you read or seen Spontaneous Combustion?
