Remember those gifts that were labeled 'as advertised on TV' in December?
Stuff for the house like de-fluffers and veg choppers and needle threaders. Stuff that our Parents just couldn't live without!
And then there were LP records. K-Tel's 20 Greatest Hots and 20 More Greatest Hits. Even I had these!
I've no idea how any of this stuff was bought back then. I assume you rang someone in the TV up and sent off a Postal Order to ITV and hey presto! the item dropped out of the bottom of the telly like a fruit machine!
Did you get gifts labeled 'as advertised on TV'?
There's an aisle in some Wal Marts here that sports a sign ' As Seen On TV' and is full of that stuff. My father has sent me there a few times looking for some gadget.
ReplyDeleteI don't recall getting any as gifts though.
Sounds great that aisle KG! The main things I got as advertised on TV were records by K-Tel who specialised in 24 hits like Coz I Luv U by Slade and Hot Love by T.Rex and other Seventies gems!
DeleteI seem to recall "Ronco" as being one of the big players in the Christmas market - we had a handy pruning saw that lasted years !
ReplyDeleteFenton
Yes, Ronco, I agree Fenton. Big players on TV. I remember a de-fluffer for clothes my Mum got. You could swivel the head round to sweep off the fluff I think. It was like a record cleaner on a handle. My Mum probably de-fluffed my haor when I wasn't looking!
