Light is a problem for collectors of anything that come in colour boxes. Our collections of toys do and are vulnerable to fading as are books and comics and I suppose LP records.
Is light a big problem? How do you deal with it? Do you keep your precious collection in the dark readers?
I do indeed tend to keep the shutters down in the man cave, esp since some of my toys are litho tinplate which is also at risk (I have one red tinplate car that's pale orange on one side from having spent years in a shop window...).
ReplyDeleteI've looked into UV-filtering film to cover the windows with, but that's tricky to apply oneself and costly to have done. So everything sensitive stays in the (few) corners where there's no direct sunlight, and the shutters are mostly down...

Yes, darkness appears to be our friend, which is a pain as I love daylight in the house Paul, so much so that several rooms don't have curtains or blinds. I think all of my toys will have to go in the attic soon, out of light and out of sight alas.
DeleteI tend to scan and remake anything like that, and store the original.
ReplyDeleteDo ya mean you scan and recreate boxes Andy? Wow!
