I've just read that someone is selling plots on the Sun for a euro each!
Well, at least they were selling them until Ebay pulled the listing! Now the seller is sueing Ebay! The mind boggles!

I had to look twice at this and wonder if it was April Fools Day! Turns out that the seller has even registered the Sun in their name at a notary public in Spain.
The seller managed to list the solar plots for two years before Ebay pulled the plug. God knows if any were sold! I can guess where all those deeds to the plots went - up in smoke!
Seriously, is it even remotely possible for anyone to own the Sun? If that ever happens we'll be getting bills from Yorkshire Daylight, which would basically be, yes, daylight robbery!
Well, if they "own" the sun which is implied if they are selling plots on it, they have opened themselves up to massive amounts of litigation. Sunspots ruined your satellite? Sue her. Sunburned? She's the responsible party and failed to provide warnings regarding her sun. Etc etc.
ReplyDeleteThe lady is a nutjub and is claiming that although no country is allowed to claim ownership of the sun or moon, there is nothing that says an individual cannot claim it. She's sadly mistaken and registering at a notary is not going to help her.
All good points Lance. I got a bit of sunburn today actually! Where's my pen! I suppose ultimately there will remain certain things in the Solar System which cannot be owned: the Sun, Time, Space, Gravity. I won't include the planets as one day you never know, they might just all belong to Apple!
