Just browsing through my old Ebay picture archive and I came across this old boxed set of SpaceX toys, the Earth Launch Pad Set. I love the box art - the images look like photographs of the actual toys, which came neatly displayed inside as you can see here.
I'm assuming that this set brought together all the carded toys in the Earth Base section of the series, together with the MLP boxed toy. It all came complete with this green play mat. From the looks of it the MLP went in the hatched square and the rest of the fleet were scattered around the various marked points. Are the arrows for the MLP to taxi round? I never saw this as a kid. Did you? Has anyone ever laid everything out on this mat?
I had the Space Station set. which contained the Nuclear Pulse and various spacecraft. It came with a mat that was just stars on a black background. The shop near my house had all 3 sets in the window, but I could only afford one.
ReplyDeleteI never saw these sets when I was young - Superset 1 was the only boxed set I knew about until I ran into Spacex again later in life.
ReplyDeleteWoodsy's assumption is right, this set has all the Earth Base toys in it, with a Hawk added for good measure. The NF2 shown sitting in the box doesn't belong there.
Which is why I took it out, for as it happens I ended up owning the particular set in those pictures - the damage to the lid is identical. :) And as it happens, I did indeed once put those toys on the Base Plan - I'll mail Woodsy the pic I took.
Best -- Paul
I don't recall any SpaceX boxed sets from when I was a Kid Kev so to have all three in a shop window sounds great. You have a good memory if you can remember them!
ReplyDeleteAnd Paul, ha ha, it's your set! Small world! A lovely thing to have for sure. I'll post your base plan piccy. Cheers!

The shop was a general store on the ground floor of the same building that my parents maisonette was in. I saved up enough to buy one box set. All 3 were still in the window so I had to choose, not easy but I went with the one that had my favourite spaceships.
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that that you lived so close to a toy shop Kev! I had to travel with my parents from Ashton-on-Ribble into Preston Town Centre. But the journey was worth it. Thomas Mears Toys and Zodiac Toys awaited. I adored them both!
