I don't collect Gerry Anderson dolls and figures but I have always taken an interest in them as I had a few like Parker as a kid. One figure I have seen at toy fairs and in reference books is the little Joe 90 doll by Pedigree with his dapper red PVC suit on.
However, recently I have seen two mysterious references to this doll and if it isn't the same it;s darn similar.
The first is this one on the Vectis auction site, which describes him as the TV21 Andy doll. Huh?
The second mystery is this Pedigree doll, which I snapped on my phone. It was in a toy reference guide somewhere this year, but I forget where. Here the little fella's called Candy! Who?
So readers, Andy, Candy, Joe 90? What the WIN's Most Special Agent is going on?
There was a comic called Candy in the late '60s, which was about (if I remember correctly) two Pandas who adopted two kids (who were human-sized puppets), but there was a real kid also who played with them. Yeah, I know - Bizarre or what?! It was a photo-story. It even had a Thunderbirds strip in it.
ReplyDeleteInteresting Kid. I wonder if that's what they mean, a Candy and Andy doll. This needs further looking into!

Thanks for that Kid. An interesting read that, very toubgue in cheek which is refreshing to see, especially as that's the official Gerry Anderson website run by his son. I have at least one Candy and Andy Annual and have featured them before on Moonbase, particularly as their house is full of old toys! I'm still at a loss as to why a reference book and Vectis refer to that Joe 90 doll as Andy/ Candy though. The weird thing is, they are similar dolls in the comic and the TV show!
