Reminded by Andy B's mini Fireball XL5, these are the miniature SWORD and SPACEX craft and boxes I made and/or painted last year: I call them SWORD-Y-KINS!
Any more miniatures out there?
[Blackbird is a die-cast and not altered by me at all]
Having no real modeling skills Andy, I tried to find small toys that already looked like the SWORD craft and took it from there. The Dyna Soar is the small plastic version that comes comes in the Space Voyagers X-Planes Set [as is the Space Glider]. I re-painted both and added an antenna to the Glider. The scout was a small toy version of the Star Wars Imperial Cruiser [I think], which I painted and added rear engines. The most work was the Lunar Climber where I actually got my hands dirty and moulded das pronto clay around a small Kinder Egg car, which had the multi-wheels just like the Climber. Then painted and extras glued on. The Yellow spacecraft was professionally made by reader Velbor and Ravenstar studios. I just painted it. It's the Fireball XL5 / Spacex Salvage Craft.
I have some projects lined up to help me cope with the &%!$@ing hell my neighbours are going to make of my Christmas. So I just may, at long last, finish my stupid little Lunar Vehicle. Not worth the wait, but I'll show you anyway ... IF it happens. LOL
Be positive, folks and keep modelling! You could try milliput instead of Das clay, Woodsy, it's really versatile, and can be shaped with a wet blade as well as shaped by hand -and cut or sanded when dry. You can also mould with it, making a mould out of milliput and casting "positives" with milliput, but using powder eg. talcum powder to coat the mould and stop the two halves sticking.
Great idea. I'm intrigued by the models of the scout and dyna-soar -what material did you use to make them?
