The Future Never Become

One book I would have liked from Santa SWORD is this THE FUTURE NEVER BECOME from Japan. There's some pics of SWORD ships in the top picture, which, along with the covers, are pages featured in an Ebay listing a couple of years ago. Maybe there's more? Has anyone got a copy?

Not me. I'd like to have a read of one though. Are they expensive, Woodsy?

I just looked up the "Space Game" shown in the top photo. There's an irreverent review here:

The board is funny and cute. It shows a "Conditioning Chamber" which men and women in everyday clothing enter at one end, and emerge at the other garbed in spacesuits.

The planets have names like "The Big Gold Planet", "Little Gold Planet", "Happy Planet" and "Lucky Planet". (I must visit the latter pair).

And Space Bandits draw ships off-course by using huge horseshoe-shaped magnets. (smiles). So nice.

The playing pieces are gorgeous. There's one to the right of the Booster Rocket in that top photo.

What's interesting to me are the two model vehicles from Franquin's Spirou strip, being the blue and white Turbot Mk 2 and the red Zorglumobile.

Do a pic search on google for < turbot franquin > and you'll find drawings and models of both the Mk 1 and Mk 2 as well as the lifesize versions made for a recent exhibition. Ditto for Zorglumobile, where I'm excited to find somebody's made one that really flies!

I don't know Spirou et Fantasio, but I followed your instructions, Paul, and found the models of the Turbot and the Zorglumobile. The flying version in that YouTube film is super! I like the way the landing gear retracts - lovely detail.

Pity the few English translations of Spirou aren't easier to get hold of. You've got me wanting to read some now.
