I like the Civil War post of yours. I must say I miss not being near historic British sites to visit.

I always thought the Parliamentarian Army helmet that was dubbed 'the lobster tailed pot' visually summed up the New Model Army.

I have a couple of models in my collection, see above.

I'm presently reading a book about the origin of New York City and have just read how the English Civil War lead to religious groups like the Pilgrims heading for a new life in the new world. 

That's what prompted the English colonies in New England, Massachusetts and Connecticut, to expand. When you had crazies hunting down witches in furtherance of their own religious beliefs, rational people headed south for the freer religious practices of New Amsterdam, which in turn lead to Brits outnumbering the Dutch.

THE HORNET AND THE SCOUT

Whenever I see a yellow plastic plane I'm reminded of my Scout 2.

I've stitched together two of the pictures to make it easy to see; what a sleek neat craft!

By comparison here's my beloved Project SWORD Scout 2, which I adored as a kid.

Any similarity ends there though if any at all! 

The Scout 2, being one of the three smallest SWORD toys, could fit on your palm, whereas the 

Hornet Owl is huge! Have a look at the assembly video on the maker's page. How cool is that!

Civil War News

A recent trip to Oakwell Hall, run by Bradford Council, brought back memories.

I loved the arms and armour in the window. I had plastic versions as a young knight. You too? These were a bit later. Cromwellians with muskets, big news round here during the English Civil War with the Battle of Adwalton Moor close by.

The shop sold die-cast soldiers, civil war key rings ....

And boxed canons. These seem to have always been around. I don't think they're toys but I had some as a kid too; you?

The sweet corner was ... Sweet! What's your favourite? I'm very partial to a chocolate peanut.

Andersonisation at Moonbase

It's like 1967 over here. Moonbase Junior is enjoying his new old Tracy Island from Carlton. We picked it up boxed with all the vehicles for £20 from FB Marketplace.

Everything needed new batteries - so a lot - but everything worked after that! Result! 

From there I decided to introduce Junior to Project SWORD! Well, the pictures at least. It's harder for him to get excited when there's no TV show. He's an avid fan of Thunderbirds Are Go, the modern series.

I got carried away then and slipped a Thunderbird 4 in his Mateys box! It brought back great memories seeing it slide out into his bowl of cereal!

Things got even more Gerry Anderson then. Junior watched an episode of Stingray and Joe 90 on You Tube. He loved them! 

The training programme is well underway!

Hi Woodsie, I was just reading Will Osborne's post about identifying R&L cereal premiums.

Did you know Crater Critters were made in Australia?

I have a copy of this book by Craig L Hall Breakfast Barons Cereal Critters and the Rosenhain and Lipmann Legacy.

It really is THE BIBLE for this subject. I bought my copy back in 2006 and it is out of print and hard to find now but it really is worth hunting for.

Despite some dodgy layout design choices and colour photography, it's packed with amazing facts and is brilliantly researched.

I'll just drop a few pics of the book to aid anyone who wants to search it out.

Despite the exhaustive detective work that has gone into it, there is no mention of Gerry Anderson merchandise.

Although the Sugar Smacks Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet model kits were obviously in the R&L format, they don't have the characteristic trademark logo. 

Have you done a specific blog post about the Anderson cereal releases? I do wonder where Century 21 got their smaller models and figures manufactured (I had a Jeff Tracy figure as a kid)

Anyway, on with the hunt for anyone who wants to own this fabulous book!

Cereal Killer - Kevins Vickers Viscount

 I found one of the Kelloggs Cornflake Plane models recently, still in its little baggy, waiting to be made. As I am not great with small models and tend to prefer space kits, I offered it to Kevin Davies, to see what he might make of it. Here is the result! A tiny 3" BEA liveried Vickers Viscount!
