TOKYO 2020: OLYMPIC TUNDRA

Hi all,

Hot Wheels Ghost Olympics model number 2 of 10 is the '10 Toyota Tundra pick-up truck, depicting Baseball. This has a 2011 copyright date on the base, although it is a 2020 issue. 

The metal body is maroon, with a black plastic interior, which also forms the lower portion of the body, and the pick-up bed. The windows are smoke tinted. Large wheels with gold hub detail.

There are pink/red/brown stripes. TOKYO 2020, BASEBALL, and the Hot Wheels ribbon are in gold, with the Olympic symbol on the bonnet in white. Again, the artwork on the short card is half hidden by the model, due to the limited space available.

     I recently discovered that at least some of the Tokyo models are available in a second colour, but I am not sure if this applies to all of the Olympic models. I currently have four of these second colours, and all, so far, are basically white. All the plastic parts, and the wheels, are the same as on the maroon version. 

The coloured stripes on the sides and the bonnet are slightly different, although the colours are the same. The writing on the sides is still gold, but the Olympic symbols on the bonnet are now red. The artwork on the card is the same, except for the change in colours.

PHOTO BOX ART OR NOT?

 

I saw this Quercetti Mach X rocket and thought, hmm, not sure about that card art. I think I prefer an illustrated card rather than large photo's of people like this one.

Having said that its very noticable and modern looking.

What do you prefer?

1968 ALFA ROMEO CARABO

 I adored this car as a kid when I had a small Matchbox die-cast version.

Just look at it in real life, its even more wondrous!

I had to chuckle at this basket of hairdressers' model heads.

Can you come up with a suitably comical caption readers? 

JFK: HE REALLY ROCKS

Here we have yet another JFK rocker. Toy versions of his rocking chair were popular when he was President. Can you imagine any other president or premier having so many toy versions of them?

This quite complex toy is marked "1963 Kamar Inc. Los Angeles Made In Japan". I saw this pic on a sale so archived it for later. I wonder what the little newspaper says?

One of my all-time favourite space toys, the sleek Scout 3 from the Century 21 Project SWORD range, 1967.

This hazy foto was on a French site from 2015 called the Last Dodo. I liked the bright red colour they achieved in it.

Have you got a Scout 3 or anything like it?

MYSTERY MODEL SPACE PLANE

There's a thread on the wonderful Alphadrome site that discusses this mystery model space plane.

I think the thread's inconclusive as to what it is. Its an intriguing looking thing for sure so I thought I'd ask Moonbase readers what you think it is?

I CANNOT SEE CLEARLY NOW

A question was posed where I work today. What's the difference between transparent, translucent and opaque?

Well I got opaque completely wrong, thinking that it meant foggy or misty. Apparently it means no light passes through it or something like that.

Even more troublesome was transparent, especially when someone asked if a mirror was that, transparent. But no, mirrors could be said to be opaque as light doesn't pass through them.

A further slippery scenario given was where a obviously transparent object like a small window can be clearly seen in the opaque mirror. Does the mirror render the reflection of the window opaque as well?

And what about a lamp reflected in a mirror? Can the reflection be classed as a light source and thus make the mirror transparent?

I cannot see clearly and my head hurts!
