TEDS, TEDDIES, BEARANDAS AND EDWARDS

Teddy's have always been big with kids.

We had Tingha and Tucker this morning courtesy of Century 21 licensing and Gerry Anderson's organisation had more too, namely the Bearandas who drove Stripey the mini and ran the magic toyshop in Candy/ Candy and Andy comics and Annuals.

Among countless telly bears here's one I never knew, Teddy Edward, a neat play of words as Teddy is already an Edward. here's an annual I've just freecycled to someone from 1975. By Christmas 1975 I was 15 and dreaming of cuddling girls, not teddies!

And maybe a much more famous telly teddy is SuperTed, the welsh bear. We used to watch it on S4C in the early 80's with our one year old daughter when we lived across from Puffin Island.

Superted is making a comeback this year by all accounts and his spotty friend too.

THE BIG ONE! GODZILLA V KONG 2021

Having been an excited fan of giant monsters my entire life I could only be ever be nothing but ecstatic about the upcoming rumble between Kong and Godzilla screening sometime this year in cinemas.

It's probably the only film I'm planning on seeing at the flicks in 2021 if Corona will allow it and maybe by Autumn it'll be safe to sit in the local Cineworld again.

Kong has tussled with Godzilla before but its this particular modern monster universe that I've been following and watching keenly. I've seen them all so far and have enjoyed the lot.

Yet Kong and Godzilla come from different cultures and even different decades. Kong is an American ape from the 30's, whilst Godzilla is a Japanese atomic dragon from the 50's. In many ways Godzilla is a product of American-Japanese conflict, a fiery child of post-war nuke tests. Whether Zilla holds Kong responsible for anything we will just have to see. It will be interesting to see if the film's producers have nationalised the monsters, pitting them as America V Japan. I hope not.

For me the two giants - and they have got gigantic - represent something older than nations, something much more ancient, almost elemental and outside of humanity. I do hope this comes out in the new movie and the two titans are returned to their homes intact at the end of the film.

DANGER DINOSAURS!

I love this old book cover I saw online. I hope its genuine. I've never read this or googled for more info. It just reminds me of a 1950's version of Jurassic Park! How cool is that!

Atlantic Army

A quick whizz through that Italian UFO magazine archive and I found a couple of toy adverts for the Atlantic range of army toys. Atlantic are a range of models in various scales, made of soft polypropolene, like the early Airfix toy tanks and figures. Of interest to UFO fans is the Shado Mobile ripoff model, seen crossing the Pontoon vehicle. I was lucky enough to find most of these Atlantic kits in the 1980's, some of which, such as the T-34 Tank and ONTOS Rocket Tank came with two models in one box. The larger ones are single issue.
