Flying Helicopter Toy from the 50's

Hi Woodsy

Just found this clip on You Tube, a remote control helicopter toy from the 1950s. It flies on the end of a pole and can pick up various small items that were included in the box. 

It bears a very slight resemblance to the American Sikorsky S-51 helicopter, or the British Westland-Sikorsky Dragonfly version. Looks like a fun toy.

In the distance was Mos Eisley Spaceport. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

Thats No Moon

 The xmas sweet selection brought some interesting packaging this year, as shown by a giant plastic Ferrero Roche ball and a clear plastic cone to hold the sweets. The ball will make a handy background prop for a space photo!

THIS POST NEEDS A FUNNY TITLE CAPTION! ANYONE?

 The Christmas Fairy needed a bit of extra help this iffy year so Superman stepped in.

We made sure that no Kryptonite was hanging on the tree

So Supe could do his thing and make sure the baubles don't fall.

He'll be on tree duty until the 6th January.

Superman will be available for world-saving duties after that.

Remember this from the early 1990's? A Thunderbirds Butterkist bucket. I found it in our loft!

It was part of the early 90's Gerry Anderson revival on the telly. Did you get involved?

THE BURAGO UFO INTERCEPTOR

Keeping to Scoop's UFO theme I was amused by this imposter into the genre I saw online, the Burago UFO Interceptor.

Its a van!

It has a radar.

Some nice graphics on the back.

The body has some futuristic styling and a laser.

Not sure of the date.

Trans-Continental Bus - the Real One

While looking at some of the older entries on Moonbase Central I saw the Trans-Continental Express toy bus.

A very nice model. None of the posts seemed to mention that it is loosely based on a real vehicle. It appears to be a futuristic version of the GM Scenicruiser bus, but with sharper edges, and more wheels. 

The Scenicruiser was built in the 1950s for long-distance inter-city travel. They were built for the Greyhound line, but served with other companies after Greyhound retired them. 

This has been modelled many times by various companies. The Matchbox and Lledo models are much shorter than the real thing - especially the gap between the front and rear wheels. Attached is a photo of the Lledo version, and one of the real thing from Pinterest.
