MY OLD PROJECT SWORD CABINET

I'm re-posting this from 2009. I can't believe its 11 years ago and just a year after starting this blog.

This was my Project SWORD toy collection  back then in an IKEA cabinet..

Looking back I'm amazed I had multiples of certain toys.

Sadly no more. These seconds and thirds were sold on my toy stall back then, which I was drawing to a close.

Looking at this I see a game called Tic Tac Toad to the left. Incredibly I've sold it today on Ebay! I'd forgotten it was even listed. Ebay re-list items 8 times automatically free of charge. I listed it weeks and weeks ago!

The top is the Prospector section. 3 x T in a Circle, 2 x Chibi and 1 x Tarheel. there are 3 x NASA Probe Force 3's too.

Lower down are unboxed toys including a tinplate Chinese Moonship. The boxed toys include the Tarheel Novas and the Echo Car. More on Echo Cars to come soon via Rob C.

The final section is a mish mash of Century 21, JR21, SpaceX and Imai.

The cabinet is still there but its contents have changed in the last 10 years.

HOT WHEELS ADVERTISING LIMITED EDITION VEHICLES

Hello Woodsy

As Hot Wheels are making an appearance on the blog here are two from when I collected trucks with advertising. 

When I sold off the collection I retained the Woolworths one from 1996 out of nostalgia. The Rite-Aid was a year later. 

My childhood was filled with visits to Woolies as pocket money for toys or books went further there.

Stay busy, just a few more months of isolation to go!

THE 12 -WHEEL SPACE TERRAIN SEARCHER

I quite like this 12 wheeler, the Char Monstre by Dragon Toys I saw on the Mega Deals site. It reminds me of an articulated Explorer 12 vehicle.

I had a chuckle when I saw this Mechanical egg-shaped Scurry Mouse on the Main Street Toys site.

How on earth does it scurry?

ITS A KETTLE FOR COOKING EGGS IN?

I've heard about a worrying trend for cooking food in kettles.

What?

Yes, the lowly kettle we boil water in for our cuppas has become in some hands a cooking vessel.

I cannot imagine what's cooked in that steel silo but I hope it's not for boiling eggs! Imagine them splitting! You'd have egg-flavoured water for evermore!

It has to be a form of cabin fever during lockdown. Strange indoor behaviour.

THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN

I'm now watching the Incredible Shrinking Man. Its a spectacularly tragic tale of what is described as the 'ludicrous midget'. 

I must say I'm finding its tone and mood quite depressing, especially as I know how it ends from seeing it as a youngster. The anti-hero's relentless descent reminds me of Ray Milland's similarly helpless plight in the Man with X-Ray Eyes.

I'm holding out for the famous scenes with the spider and the cat! I wonder if it influenced the later Land of the Giants? It also evokes the loneliness I sensed in the TV series Robinson Crusoe.

Unlike the Giant Claw, the special effects in this are staggeringly good. The dolls house scene with the marauding kitten is fabulous! It was directed by the great Jack Arnold who also made Tarantula, which starred one Mara Corday, who starred in the Giant Claw!

THE GIANT CLAW

Just enjoying the Giant Claw on TV. Its from 1957 about a global calamity for which there is no known remedy. Its sounds awfully familiar. Sadly art imitates life as New Yorkers bare the brunt of the deadly onslaught once again.

Looking at the actors in the film I realise that I actually have an autograph of the heroine, Sally Caldwell played by sci-fi queen Mara Corday.

Checking for model kits I see there's this fabulous but pricey 12 incher made of resin. This example at the Alchemy Works looks superb painted up!

Apparently audiences laughed at the film's big bird when it hit the cinemas. I quite like it. There's lots of other interesting stuff going on in the film too like the hot rods and the science.

Top quote so far, 'get me my pants General!'

The science in the movie is based on mesons. I had to look it up!
