dinosaurs in a bag

These little monsters are available in Wilkos in the UK at present. Part of their party favours offer they come in a small baggy and are beautifully sculpted with smooth edges and bright colours. There are four different dinosaurs in each bag. I would have adored them as a kid!

As soon as I saw them on the shop rack I thought of much older sets like these MPC dinosaurs and wondered if they were Wilkos' inspiration?

Googling plastic dinosaurs I was amazed just how many have been made and continue to be made. Its a whole collecting arena in itself.

Toy Solders HQ's cool website gives us a clue just how many MPC dinosaurs there are and that's just one brand!

Major miss Mason: mattel's lady in space

I was always surprised that there wasn't a female version of Major Matt Mason. I think Mattel missed a trick personally since girls were no doubt swept up in the space race as much as boys. Or?

Marx did it for the McDare range making the line a family affair. They even got a dog!

I'm not saying that Matt needed a female companion as such, a Mrs. Mason. After all he did have mates. When I say mates I mean the Northern England idea of friends!

There was Callisto and Captain Lazer to knock about with as well as Seargant Storm. Not sure about Scorpio. Was he a baddie? Little Or, bless him, never even got to the toy shops.

So, if you were running Mattel back then what name and rank would you give to a female version of Matt Mason?

Hi,

Somebody gave me a kid's science toy of a model volcano. You mix chemicals and it basically fizzes up coloured fluid to look like lava. Thought I'd have the MEV explore the landscape.

tv movies anyone?

Having just watched Horror at 30,000 feet on You Tube I realised that I still love those old TV movies like this one.

I'm still not sure why they made TV movies but for some reason they work. Were they all American?

They are also easily recognisable, which again is a mystery. It could be the pauses in between acts, a bit like the gaps in a series shown all at once.

I wonder if any of them were good enough to spawn some toys and games?
