Signpost to Eternity

Today is the anniversary of Mariners historic martian flyby, decades ago, as well as the rendezvous of New Horizon with the outer cold of Plutonian space. 

Personally, im fascinated by being able to finally 'see' Pluto and am amazed to find its a dusty red like Mars. Historically, Pluto was illustrated as cold blue or greenish colour, so im hoping this will be the first of many strange revelations! Not long now before the photos are transmitted, then we will know for sure, what the outer limits of the solar system holds.

DAVID ELLIOTT - THUNDERBIRD DIRECTOR

I see that original A.P. Films director David Elliott is to take a trip down memory lane and direct some new Thunderbirds episodes. The new Kickstarter project from the Filmed in Supermarionation team are to re-create new Thunderbirds episodes expanding the original audio recordings  taken from three of the sixties Century 21 records.

David should be a familiar name to Gerry Anderson fans, as his name appeared on the end credits many times during the heyday of Supermarionation.

I, like many of the attendees at Andercon was lucky enough to meet and hear David talk about his time working with the Andersons.

With David directing it sounds like this new project will be in good hands.

Diecast Doppelganger Spaceship from the film Journey to the Far Side of the Sun

Reader Jim P brought my attention to this neat die-cast spaceship from the Anderson movie Doppelganger which recently appeared on the Bay. A cute thing, does anyone know anything about this unidentified model?

David's previous XL5 model, which I believe was used in photos for the Network Fireball XL5 DVD box art, didn't have a removable Fireball Junior. Hence the remake.

PLUTO AND CHARON: OUR NEW NEIGHBOURS

Excitement is running high at Moonbase as NASA's New Horizons probe moves ever closer to the binary system of Pluto and Charon. Seeing our 'new' neighbours up close and personal for the first time is going to be just ace. Moonbase Central hasn't been this excited since Project SWORD left a dying Earth!

Its taken New Horizons 10 years and 3 Billion miles to get to Pluto. With under a million miles left to go the probe will fly-by the dwarf and its moon at approximately 00:49 UK time on the 14th July [7:50 EDT]. The mission then zooms out of our immediate System into the outer edge of the Kuiper Belt and beyond. Exciting stuff to say the least! Go plutonic yourself directly with NASA on their site. Are you excited readers?

We need to get a Project SWORD base on Pluto as soon as poss readers. But which SWORD or SpaceX ship or ships could make the 3 billion mile 10 year voyage and why?

I would have liked this as a kid. A dart gun that's also a torch!

I did have this at the time. If I remember rightly the object of the game was to steer a ball bearing in and out of all the recesses following a route. You lost out if your ball rolled into the middle. 

I never had this but I reckon it was just a variation of the old Magic Robot game.
