Just when I thought we'd seen it all on Moonbase up pop a pair of completely unique toys! A new discovery for Moonbase Central, these photographs were kindly supplied by the toys' owner Salim. Salim collects Gerry Anderson toys from around the world and this amazing pair is from Japan.
Regular readers will recognise the toys as two of the three Scouts from the Project SWORD range by Century 21, namely Scout 2 [yellow] and 3 [red]. The packaging is the unique thing here, never seen before on the blog, these two toys are carded and vacuum packed for the Japanese market. Each toy comes with a SWORD badge and a missile. They are hole punched so we can assume they were rack toys originally.
Salim has had the Japanese translated as follows: スカウト - 'SCOUT', 号 means "number' and 機 means "machine plane". So the whole reads something like: Project SWORD Scout Machine Plane I,II,III. The Century 21 vortex emblem appears top left too. It makes sense that somewhere out there is the missing Scout I so the search is on! If you have a theory as to how these toys fit into the overall Century 21 SWORD story I'm sure that readers would love to hear it. I will let the rest of Salim's photo's speak for themselves.
