Situation Normal all FIMO'd Up
In an attempt to make a repro shin guard for Conan's horse I used some FIMO. It formed well and I was pleased with the look so it went in the oven.
Mistake! It wasn't FIMO. It was air-drying modelling clay and melted like plastic!
Drat!
I'm now keeping things simple and making a guard out of Baco-foil!
That can't melt!
Ha ha!
Battlestar Dilemma
I saw a box set of the modern Battlestar Galactica DVDs at a sale today. I paused but passed.
I'm not well-up on BSG at all. Like this set, it sort of passed me by in the maelstrom of Star Wars, but I do seem to recall someone saying that the modern re-make TV series was one of the best sci-fi shows around.
Is that right? Any good? It might still be there next week!

Ten Million Hits Reached!
Moonbase has just passed the ten million hits mark, which I'm quite staggered by.
I would like to thank Scoop and Wotan for their fabulous ongoing posts and all those who contribute, however small, to the content of the blog.
Last but most importantly I would like to thank you the readers, without whom Moonbase would be an empty shell on a barren world. When you read it, and also if you comment, it really does come alive.
Thanks so much,
FAB!

JOHNNY LIGHTNING 'SUPERCAR'
A few shots of the original 'yellow winged' Johnny Lightning Supercar, that came out in 2001. A later release with white wings corrected the error.
Other releases followed featuring Supercar as it might have appeared in a proposed series of a U.S. planned 5-issue run of comic books, which would have picked up where the TV series left off.
Sadly, only one issue appeared in February, 2003.
SCRAMBLE BUG BOX INNERS
I noticed this recently online and something I've not seen before; the original inner packaging card rings on the Century 21 Toys Project SWORD Scramble bug.
The 3 card shapes protect all the delicate parts at the top of the toy below the lid whilst it's being stored in it's box.
Neat!
Do you have any toys' original inner packaging like this?

KEEPING PACE
Another of my UFO TV series memories.
My old UFO poster, published in 1972 by Pace International was on my bedroom wall for several years during my early teenage years, before it was replaced with posters of the chopper motorcycles from Easy Rider, Jethro Tull, and Samantha Fox.
Thankfully, I’ve grown out of chopper motorcycles!
Platforma Voladora: the Spanish Flying Platform Toy
Further to Brian's fantastic Tudor Rose flying toy, here's a Spanish plastic flying platform.
I adore the box!

UFO AND TV ACTION
Some further memories of UFO, and TV Action.
Countdown comic which had launched on the back of Gerry & Sylvia Anderson’s new series, UFO continued for 58 issues, with a last issue dated March 25th, 1972. It was a prestige publication, using expensive glossy paper, and employed some fine artists. Then it’s title changed to TV Action, reflecting more of it’s changing content of contemporary action- oriented TV series, like The Persuaders!, Mission Impossible, Hawaii Five-0 and Cannon.
The glossy look was replaced with less expensive paper.
Countdown’s last complete UFO story, ‘Alien Brainwave, ,was illustrated by Jon Davis, who, coincidently had drawn the UFO complete story in Countdown’s first issue.
Issue 59, dated April 1st, 1972 returned the following week retitled TV Action +Countdown, with a striking Dr Who and The Daleks cover drawn by Gerry Haylock. Inside was a black & white Brian Lewis illustrated strip called, ‘Let the Aliens Land’.
Another black & white Jon Davis strip began in issue 67, dated May 27th, 1972 called, ‘The Final Climb’.
A new colour UFO strip started in issue 71, dated June 24th, 1972, illustrated by John M Burns, entitled, ‘Small World’.
Although Burns also illustrated other strips in the comic during it’s run, he would continue to draw the rest of the UFO strips, including four complete black & white stories. The last one being, ‘Return of the Pharaoh.
Here's the TV Action covers featuring a complete UFO story. The covers were also drawn by John Burns.
'Return of the Pharaoh' ended the weekly comic's UFO run, and was dated August 4th, 1973.
TV Action continued for a further three issues, ending with issue 132, dated August 25th, 1973.

HOT WATER
W E S T W O R L D
Having inadvertantly subscribed to NOW TV for a month I've been cramming in as much Westworld watching as I can late at night when everyone's in bed.
I loved Yul Brynner's original Terminatoresque madbot gunslinger when I was a kid (never seen Futureworld though), so I was sad when I only saw a bit of HBO's epic series first time round. It went pay to view I think and vanished.
This time I'm properly captivated and thoroughly enjoying it.
Oddly, I adore the late Michael Crichton's view of the world, that large-scale man-made networks, in his particular case theme parks, will eventually screw up and break free. The very definition of SNAFU!
I only need to consider BBC News coverage of Vogue's controversial debut use of a female AI supermodel in this month's mag to see how its starts, artificial perfection. But hey, maybe I'm just watching too much Westworld so ignore me!
Anyways, the series is phenomenal and the slow collapse of the park's systems and the growing sentience of the liberated and vengeful cyborgs (is that what they are? Or are they androids?) is riveting. Like a town full of Terminators!
I'm currently at a point where the story arcs of pivotal characters, both robot and human, are coming to a head and intriguing new beginnings beckon.
There's a whiff of a new park round the corner too, Samurai World!
I simply cannot wait!
Do you like Westworld readers? I wonder if there's ever been any toys or collectables?
