A few blog friends and I have noticed that browsing/ googling for Moonbase Central has recently changed.
The direct link to the blog now appears much lower down in the list.
Having checked this morning I would say at least 5 other sites appear first before the blog's proper link appears. All the sites do actually mention Moonbase Central.
I first came across this last week and after clicking on the blog's direct link every day a few times the blog's link rose to the top again after a few days, but its sunk again today.
I don't know why this is happening I'm afraid.
Another oddity seems to be that the blog's direct link is always an old post and not the current one. To get to the current blog post you need to to click on the Moonbase Central masthead at the top to refresh the blog.
I have also heard about issues around leaving comments on the blog. My guess is that different platforms react differently with blogger commenting. Blogger is the provider of the blog space and is owned by Google.
I would be interested to hear from any readers who are having a similar experience locating the blog and/or commenting on it.
I've noticed that Google searches for specific posts on moonbase central yield no results at all now, even with moonbase central in quotes. It used to be possible to find specific posts via a Google search.
ReplyDeleteIts all very odd Kevin.
DeleteOn my android phone, the blog appears halfway down the second page of search results. As you say, its an old post aswell (eg today its a tanks post from 2015), so you then have to click on the mast-head to get to today!
ReplyDeleteFor me, this all started at the beginning of January. Dunno if its an Android ipdate, or whether the algorithms for google searches have been changed (I'm looking at you, AI)
As far as posting goes, I can only do it via secret mode on my phone now.
It happens on my PC as well Anon so its not just android. Its a pain.
DeleteYes Woodsy.
ReplyDeleteAll that happening to me too.
Thought it was something I'd done myself, by accident, but not so, it seems.
Appears to be happening to everyone Mish.
DeleteOn another note, all my non HD BBC channels have disappeared from my Freeview channels. They don't come back when I re-tune either. All the other channels are there and seem fine. It started on Feb 1st, I think.
ReplyDeleteAnyone else having this issue ?
We don't have a HD telly Mish and all we have are BBCs 1,2,3 and 4. Googling your particular issue threw up a whole wave of posts about BBC's non-HD channels being ditched since January 2024.
DeleteI have a link to Moonbase Central on my main computer screen, so I do not have to Google it. I still go straight to the newest posts.
ReplyDeleteI am not having any problems with the Comments, but there has been the odd time when it will not allow me to reply, and I have to try again later.
One thing I did notice a year or two ago. Originally the Labels at the bottom of the page included all old posts, back to the early days of MC, making it easy to find old posts. Now they only list the most recent posts, and drop all the older material. You have to Google those, if you can remember what the heading was, or the exact subject (some things do go off at a tangent).
All very complicated.
Thats interesting Paul, a desktop link goes straight to the current blog post. Good to know. As for the blog's old posts labelling and listings, I'll look into that.
DeleteI've added two new clickable things on the right side-bar; a blog archive showing the number of posts year by year and a Popular Posts listing for last year. These compliment the Popular Posts listing for the last 7 days on the left side-bar, as well as the hundreds of labels at the bottom of the blog, which when clicked will take you to every post with that word in the label [early posts aren't labelled, sorry]. Hope this all helps navigate a bit better.
DeleteI have Moonbase Central set as my laptop home page, so no problem! SFZ
ReplyDeleteha ha, no flies on you SF!
DeleteHiya Woodsy, I think I emailed you in December, to let you know I was having difficulty finding current blog posts. My searches were providing links to old articles.
ReplyDeleteYou did Tone, thanks, Santa and his mince pies fuddled my memory! The blog fog seems to be a universal issue now. Drat, double drat!
